Q: So I eliminated a deadbolt on a wood door, because there was two deadbolts and customer only wanted one. And I installed the hole cover but there's now a hole in the side of the door because I couldn't find which plate filler I need. The deadbolt that was there before was a Kwikset deadbolt, which filler plate do I need any suggestions? Thank you?
A: Thank you very much for the question regarding which filler plate to use.
As You state in your question you have already installed the hole cover which is likely a 2-1/8" hole cover but now you have the preparation and the edge of the door that is unfilled after you have removed the latch Bolt.
Edge fillers that are applied to the edge of the door to blank out the latch bolt prep are available in two different widths. Assuming that the height of your latchbolt is indeed two and a quarter inch, and of course it will be two and a quarter inch as that's the only size that Kwikset likely manufactures regarfding latchbolts, the only thing that you have to determine is what is the which there were two widths available in these plates. One being 1 inch wide the other being 1 1/8 inch wide. Certainly the filter plate with cover that you were going to need will be one inch wide and that is available from a company called Don-Jo and that part number is EF - 160 I have included a link below this video to that item.
However let's not forget the fact that you most likely need to blank off the frame strike prep as well. Now it's possible that you're simply going to leave in place the existing strike plate, however if you want to remove that, he will want to use the Hager part number 336P frame deadbolt strike filler plate of which I have added below this response a link to that item. A frame strike plate for a deadbolt are generally two and three quarter inch tall and the strike you have is possibly one inch wide. Do take note that the width of the frame strike filler from Hager is 1 1/8 inch wide so you might need to do some chiseling if it's a wood frame or if it's a steel frame and you might simply abandon in Place existing strike.
Thank you very much for the question keep them coming please and by all means if there's anything else we can be of help with please feel free to reach out to us thank you
