Questions and Answers
Q: What is the difference between Primus and Primus XP?
A: Primus XP was released on 11/08/2007 with the following highlights:

The XP is patented until 2024.
Primus XP has the addition of a new #7 fingerpin with a unique angle combined with a new pocket location.<
All XP systems must contain this new fingerpin.
You can upgrade an older non-XP system by either rekeying your existing system and distributing new XP keys with a new SBM (Side Bit Milling) or purchase new keys and cylinders with new SBM.
All new Primus keying systems will be Primus XP unless otherwise directed by the customer.
Older Schlage Primus systems will continue to be supported.

Q: What is Everest 29 keyway?
A: Schlage Everest 29 is a new keyway family that launched in August 2012 and is patented until 2029. It offers the highest level of restricted key system security by Schlage through patent protection of the keyway design. Patent protected key systems prohibit key duplication and assist a facility owner in maintaining key control. The new patent enables a key blank that is backwards compatible to the current Everest design allowing Everest 29 keys to work with existing Everest systems aiding the key system migration process.
Q: Can Primus keys operate non Primus cylinders?
A: A Primus key can operate a non Primus cylinder as long as the keyway is the same or the key is a multi-section. Additionally, the cylinder must be pinned to be operated by the top cuts of the Primus key.

EXAMPLE: A CP key will operate a C cylinder

Q: Why is there a hole in the bow of the new Everest 29 keys?
A: The hole in the Everest 29 key bow allows for the manufacturing process of the patented design and gives the ability to immediately distinguish the Everest 29 key from its predecessors. The Everest 29 key is just as strong as the Everest key and this hole has no impact on strength.
