Funny Stories of Epic Mistakes

“To err is human, to forgive divine”

There are certainly several different ways to express having made a mistake such as, “To err is human, to forgive divine” as Alexander Pope said or “Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time” according to George Bernard Shaw or when Vincent Van Gogh said “Even the knowledge of my own fallibility cannot keep me from making mistakes. Only when I fall do I get up again.”

On this page we are sharing stories of some of the epic mistakes that we have been responsible for. And while at the time it was not funny, these situations are those that can be reflected on with a bit of humor but most importantly how we learned from the mistake and made ourselves better salespersons in the door hardware industry as a result.

These mistakes certainly were not funny at the time however it's how we recover from them is what indeed the most important aspect. What I find in the construction industry is that some people are incredibly intolerant of errors and therefore by extension the person who made it and then there are others who are incredibly sympathetic to the human condition of being error-prone. Sometimes a relationship with a client can be severed permanently and oddly enough there are times when it can even strengthen a relationship between supplier and customer. Regardless of the personality type you are dealing with, you must face the error, determine exactly the cause, learn everything possible about this area of recently exposed lack of expertise and be most sure to not make the mistake again for if you are making the mistake repeatedly, you're truly not learning.

Please do feel free to contact our company and share your stories, feel free to supply photographs or even videos and will happily all learn from our mutual errors and hopefully have a little bit of a laugh about it at the same time.

Did you know that the Bommer 3029 series hinge requires a pre-fit in the door width? Please follow along with the document as seen here: Bommer 3029 Template
