Q: Can 5100 electric strike be used on fire rated door?
A: The Von Duprin 5100 electric strike is not for fire rated applications.
Q: Why won't the 5100 24v strike work on both a RH & LH door?
A: Are you applying 24vac voltage to the strike? If yes, the 5100 electric strike it may work in one handing and not the other when it is turned over.
The 5100 strike details are listed below:
- Only operates with 12VDC or 24VDC power supply.
- Will not operate with AC transformer.
- 12 or 24VAC can be converted to 12/24VDC using Von Duprin SO12 or SO24 rectifier.
- Works on either handing of the door when 12VDC or 24VDC is applied into it.
-
If you apply 24VAC into the 5100 electric strike it may work in one handing and not the other when it is turned over.
Q: Why is a 5100 electric strike clicking but not locking?
A: Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the problem.
Measure the voltage at the electric strike. If the strike is FSE and not locking there should be no voltage at the strike and if it is FS there should be 12VDC or 24VDC present at the strike.
Make sure the strike wires are configured correctly for 12VDC or 24VDC.
If the strike was converted to FS or FSE make sure ACTUATOR is installed properly. See 5100 electric strike, Figure 3 and Figure 5.
Make sure there is no pressure against strike lip from the lock set (a very common condition due to improper installation of the frame in most instances). Q: Which electric strike do I use for cylindrical locks used in a single door?
A: The 6211 as seen here:
would be the most common electric strike to be used with cylindrical locks on a single door application. Check the template to confirm compatibility with specific cylindrical lock model number.
DS option provides dual monitor switch.
First switch monitors the latch bolt
The second switch monitors solenoid lock/unlock.
Q: Can the 5100 electric strike be used with a mortise exit device?
A: The 5100 electric strikes are for use with cylindrical locks only.
Instead use the following:
6211 electric strike is used with mortise lock without deadbolt on a new single door, hollow metal frame applications.
6210 electric strike is used with mortise lock without dead bolt on an existing single door, hollow metal frame applications. Check template for lock compatibility. Q: Can the Von Duprin 5100 electric strike be used on a pair of doors?
A: While the manufacturer states the following:
Can only be used on a single door with a cylindrical lock
Can not be used on a pair of doors
Can not be used on a mullion I personally do not see any reason that would specifically preclude this strike from being used in the inactive leaf of a pair of doors.
