Q: Hi Rich, I haven't asked for a quote because we've continued to try to find something that doesn't look quite so industrial. We have an Italianate Victorian house that is being converted into offices. Many of the doors are the original doors and are 1 1/8 inch thick and have their original handles. We wanted to find locks that wouldn't look too out of place with the original hardware, but that has seemed problematic with the door thickness. I noticed on your website a Kaba-Ilco jimmy-proof deadbolt that is much cheaper than the model you sent to me. What is the difference in these locks? Additionally the lock you sent to me is brushed brass, but the collar is shiny brass. Is it possible to get the collar you sent to me in a brushed brass to match the lock? Currently we would need a quote for either 4 or 6 locks. I'd be happy for you to send me a quote. Thank you,
A: The basic lock type you are looking for I understand is a deadbolt. We spoke about surface mounted options as a result of your very thin door construction. I suggested the surface mount deadbolt and specifically the Segal unit because, in this type of lockset, the Segal unit is orders of magnitude higher quality than the Kaba Ilco. Having said this, the Kaba would certainly work as well, however it is not uncommon to see Segal locks working swimmingly even after several decades of use. I have never seen a functioning 60 - year old Kaba rim deadbolt. As a result, I am partial to Segal. This was my only line of thought on this.
The Segal lock will faithfully match the color of the unit as seen here in the actual original photo of the lock:

Regarding the collar you can use, Kaba has an Aluminum Collar in a Satin Bronze color and can be reviewed here:

Given the fact the base materials are different, the finishes will not be exact. This collar is mounted on the opposite side of the door and will not be visible against the interior lock body.
I can advise you on pricing but which part(s) are you unsure of costs of?
Q: Hi, it looks like you could install this without the cylinder (and with no cylinder hole in the door) if you have no need for access from outside. Is that correct??
A: That is absolutely correct. You can certainly install the Segal SE15726 Single Cylinder Deadbolt, KA Keying, Brushed Brass, Flat Strike only, Box Packaging with no exterior cylinder whatsoever.
No problem with that at all.
