A: Yes indeed - that is correct . according to Rockwood the only size available on there Windstorm rated flush bolts is a 12” length which means if you have an 8 foot tall door you will only be able to have the top of the door to the centerline of a top flush bolt set at 12 in to be compliance with wind storm rated doors.

A: For the Rockwood 556WS-626 Windstorm Lever Extension Flush Bolt - Satin Chrome Plated Brass there is only one rod length available which results in the 12" length for installation.

If your door is prepped for a 32" I would conclude you do not have a WS - windstorm - rated inactive door and would suggest you simply replace the 556WS with the Rockwood 555-626 Lever Extension Flush Bolt - Satin Chrome Plated Brass as seen here:

and then a longer rod such as the IVES FBPART.1023 34-1/2" Net Length Rod for 36" FB30, FB50 Flushbolts as seen here:

and then just cut it to length.
