Q: Is there a different version of the Rixson 147 that we would need to use with a 2-1/4" door? Or does the same template work for both 1-3/4" and 2-1/4"? Thanks,
A: There is a different version based on door thickness but you do not actually have to have the custom made pivot made for a 2 1/4" door (although it is mandatory when you have a lead lined door).
It is indeed preferable to have it made for the proper door thickness so that the bottom arm better supports the door, but the "off the shelf" 147 for 1 3/4" door will suit you just fine.

Q: Richard, I was revising the shop drawings yesterday and I cam across what I think might be a problem. See detail 3 showing the jamb head. The door opens in under the jamb head. We specified the Rixson 147 offset pivots. The cut sheets on the pivots show a large knuckle that projects up and down 3/4" from the top edge of the door that I don't think will work with what I have drawn. Is there a different hinge we can use that will install flush in the jamb head, or do I need to make the jamb head into an "L" shape to allow clearance for the knuckle? Which approach do you think would work best? Thank you, Louis
A: You have a flush ceiling condition.
Options -
a. the Rixson 180 x 102 can be used in your flush ceiling condition as seen here:

b. how about skipping to top pivot and using a load bearing intermediate pivot (up at top of door) as seen here:

c. skip the pivots and go with Soss hinges as seen here:

Q: I have a 1 3/8" that needs the rixson 147 pivot set. since 147 doesn't work for that thickness, what is an alternative model?
A: Assuming your door is approximately 5.0 lb per sq ft. the
Deltana PH60 Pivot Knife Hinge-Brass Base
may work as an alternative model as seen here:

Q: Do you have the Rixon 147 Pivot Hinge available for a 3" thick door? Satin Nickel Finish.
A: While many people will install a standard Rixson 147 on to a door that has an unusual door thickness the proper way to hang a 3” thick door is to have the pivot set made specifically for the 3” thick door and what is accomplished in this process is that you get the positioning of the arm for both the bottom of the door and the top pivot centered properly in the thickness of that 3 in thick door - when you use a standard pivot youre not carrying the load of the door onto the hardware properly because that bottom arm cannot be centered.
Having said this I have used 1-1/2” offset Rixson 147 pivots for this purpose, as the greater offset allows me to move the hardware back under and on top of the center of the door better (though this is still not correctly centered), but be mindful of how that affects the ultimate weight rating of what you would expect a properly manufactured pivot to be able to handle.
