Q: Will a 914KIL or a 914-KIL-IC work with my older 19 series exit device?
A: The (2) mounting studs on the 914KIL or 914KIL-IC changed from 3 1/2" center to center to 4 1/2" CTC in April 2002 to follow a device center case change. Due to this, an older device prior to April 2002 would need an new center case & new center case cover to accommodate the newer 914KIL/914KIL-IC trim.
Q: Hello, I am searching for new trim to replace our current. It is on a Church door and is constantly left unintentionally unlocked. We would like it to always be locked with no option to leave it in the unlocked position from the outside, I think this is called storeroom. Of course we would still like it to always be able to be used as an exit from inside. I have attached pictures of what we currently have installed as seen here:

Can you please help me identify what we have and a solution? Thank you, Tim
A: Yes - Indeed you can convert the function of your existing exit device lever trim as either a night latch function, meaning the lever is always locked and you always require the key to get in, or also as a classroom function where you can leave it locked or unlocked and the control of this is via the key.
The instructions as to how to proceed to do this can be reviewed at the link here to the Actuator Shaft Orientation Instructions:

Q: Will a 914KIL or a 914-KIL-IC work with my older 19 series exit device?
A: The (2) mounting studs on the 914KIL or 914KIL-IC changed from 3 1/2" center to center to 4 1/2" CTC in April 2002 to follow a device center case change. Due to this, an older device prior to April 2002 would need an new center case & new center case cover to accommodate the newer 914KIL/914KIL-IC trim. See attached parts manual below for center case & cover part #'s if needed.
Q: Can you put a 914KIL on a 2" thick door?
A: Currently, the 914KIL trim will only work on 1 3/4" doors.
Q: What keyway is avaialbe for the 914KIL?
A: The standard is a "C" keyway.
Q: Can the cylinder be removed and replaced
A: Certainly yes the cylinder only from the Monarch 914 KIL KD Dane Key In Lever Trim
can be removed, recombinated, serviced and replaced.
Q: What does 'KIL' stand for?
A: A lock where the outside trim has the key cylinder, 'KIL' stands for literally 'Key in Lever', incorporated into the lever itself.
Q: Difference between a 914 and an 814
A: Nothing really except that they were for different series of exit devices. They would have function the same way.
The 914-KIL trim is not compatible with an 18 series device. According to Falcon technical support:
The only lever trim Falcon offered for the 18 series is the 812L which was discontinued June of 2019.
812L
The Monarch 814 was a lever trim used on the 18 series device, a discontinued series from the manufacturer as is the trim, as seen on page 16 of the manufacturer's catalogue here:

The Monarch 914 series is still currently available because it is for the currently manufactured 19 series from Monarch, now called Falcon and can be seen on the 72βnd page of the document as seen here:

Q: Good afternoon Jessica. There is only one size for the backplate. How old is the device and trim? Can you send a picture of the device and lever trim? The older trim was a different size plate and the stud center to center was 3-1/2β, not 4-1/2β. I am wondering if it is actually our device and trim since they are asking for 4-1/2β centers.
A: I understand that you have a monarch 19 series rim exit device from about the year 2002 and that you have recently purchased the Monarch 914 KIL KD Dane Key In Lever Trim. The problem is that the center to center location for the through bolts on the new trim does not match the existing trim from your device that's almost 20 years old.
The new trim is indeed 4-1/2" CTC on the mounting bolt holes and the legacy exit device you have is compatible with the original trim CTC dimension.
You can either replace the entire device as seen here:
Or replace the Center Case which would be the Falcon 650307 19-R Series Head Assembly as seen here:
The reasons to replace the entire exit device would be to save the trouble of rebuilding the device (in my opinion this is very little work) but more so the logic that a 20 - year old exit device may be best to simply completely replace the exit device. My personal suggestion is to replace the exit device center case only.
Q: What keyway comes with the Falcon 19-KIL?
A: The standard cylinder keyway that comes with the 914KIL trim is a Schlage 6 pin "C" section.
Q: How do you convert the 914KIL trim to NL function?
A: The KIL Instructions will show you how to convert trim to Night Latch(NL) function can be seen here:
