Kwikset 138 1990 version Installation Kit

Details

This is the Kwikset version of the Lock Installation Kit that Kwikset manufactured circa 1990’s and is superior to its discontinued replacement in that it can handle 2-3/8", 2-3/4", 3-3/4", 5" backsets with its only limitation in that it does not a 1-1/2" diameter hole out of the box. If this was an issue I would simply manufacturer a conversion adapter ring for this purpose where it had a nominal OD of 2-1/8" and a nominal ID of 1-1/2". This item was changed from this original design into the replacement which can be seen here Kwikset 138 of which we still have some left in stock at this time at least in the middle of 2020. This tool was/is a favorite of handyman companies and locksmiths alike and back then we knew that we would sell approximately 1 per week. This kit is new old stock and is thoroughly unused and brand-new in every respect. The photographs below are the actual unit that you would purchase.

Q: How does the 138 differ from the kwikset installation kit 136 1 in diameter?

A: In essence the circa 1990 kit and the circa 2020 kit are essentially the same except that you'll have pieces made of different base materials for certain items but they inherently function the same. Is there a particular potential difference between the two that you would like for me to focus on?

Q: I have a kwikset installation kit 136, new in box never opened, that I want to sell but don’t know how to price it. Any idea what price I should ask for it and do you know anyone who would be interested in buying It. I know it was a very popular item and I used one for many years before I got out of the locksmith business due to age and deteriorating health.
