Q: How does the 138 differ from the kwikset installation kit 136 1 in diameter?
A: In essence the circa 1990 kit and the circa 2020 kit are essentially the same except that you'll have pieces made of different base materials for certain items but they inherently function the same. Is there a particular potential difference between the two that you would like for me to focus on?
Q: I have a kwikset installation kit 136, new in box never opened, that I want to sell but don’t know how to price it. Any idea what price I should ask for it and do you know anyone who would be interested in buying It. I know it was a very popular item and I used one for many years before I got out of the locksmith business due to age and deteriorating health.
A: Please reply to this email with photographs of the kit along with the amount that you would accept for it.
Q: do you have the red knob which closes the unit
A: I do not have any individual parts for these discontinued kits.
Q: Hello, I purchased a used Kwikset 138-1990 and it seems to have an issue. I’ve scoured the web for answers/suggestions but continue to come back to your video you made for it years ago. The issue I’m having is the adjuster is not turning as it should. It moves a bit to the fully open position but won’t turn to reduce the distance between the plates. I suspect there may be crud (or worse) built up on the adjuster screw and would like to try to remove it for cleaning/inspection. Can you tell me if removing the roll pin that sits between the adjuster shaft and the stop bolt wool allow me to remove the adjuster shaft? I would appreciate any advice you may have. Cheers, James
A: I have never done this but would not hesitate to attempt the repair. I suggest using only the proper size roll pin punch for this. My opinion is the roll pin is the correct part to start with.
