    Specifications:
    • Size: 36"W x 48"L.
    • Material: Cover and frame are 1/4" (6 mm) aluminum
    • Cover: Diamond-pattern tread plate reinforced for 300 psf (1464 kg/m2) live load.
    • Frame: Extruded aluminum channel frame with bend down anchor tabs around the perimeter. A 1-1/2" (38mm) drain coupling is welded under the frame for a pipe connection to a dry well or disposal system
    • Hinges: Heavy forged Type 316 stainless steel hinges with 1/4" (6 mm) type 316 stainless steel hinge pins.
    • Latch: Type 316 stainless steel slam lock with fixed interior handle and removable exterior turn/lift handle. Latch release is protected by a flush, gasketed, removable screw plug
    • Lift Assistance: Compression spring operators enclosed in telescopic tubes. Automatic hold-open arm with release handle automatically locks cover(s) in the open position.
    • Finish: Mill Finish aluminum with a bituminous coating applied to the exterior of the frame.
    • Hardware: Type 316 stainless steel throughout

Q: Can you powder coat the door portion of this roof hatch ?
A: I would submit that for the your portion of the Bilco J-7AL Type J-AL - Single Leaf - Floor Access Door - Drainage Channel Frame - 36" x 48" - 300 PSF - Aluminum can most certainly be powder coated. You need to disassemble the roof hatch, strip off all of the existing weather stripping, thoroughly clean the surface, powder coat, reattach new weatherstripping which can be seen here:

Alternatively the manufacturer may be able to powder coat the units to your specification prior to shipping.

Q: Can a bilco door J-7AL single leaf door be mounted flush on a outdoor deck so it can still be easily opened and walked on ?
A: The standard installation procedure of a Bilco J-7AL Type J-AL - Single Leaf - Floor Access Door - Drainage Channel Frame - 36" x 48" - 300 PSF - Aluminum is indeed where the top of the access door is flush with the surrounding floor condition as seen in the link to the technical drawing here:
