Questions and Answers
Q: I currently have what looks like the yale 112 1/4 lock on an old security gate. At this time keys for the lock i have cannot be found. Can this lock be rekeyed? Or should I just purchase a new one? Also what are the keying options. I need a lock that can be opened or locked by key on both sides.
A: Buying a new lock is not required as this lock can certainly be rekeyed and we can provide this service as can a local locksmith.

Q: Yale 112 14F Outswinging Double Cylinder Rim Loc - Does this lock have key slots on both sides.
A: This lock does indeed have a key on both sides of the lockset (inside and outside) which means it is called a double cylinder lock.

Q: Attached are photos of the lock needing to be replaced. The key is stuck on the broken lock. Is that a 1/4F outswinging lock or the 1/4? The door swings out from the house into a mudroom. I have added a photo of the second similar lock. This door swings in. Both locks appear to be the same. If I bought two locks, could they be keyed to the same key? I will be sending another question about a different old lock in a separate email. Thank you very much for your excellent customer service! Peg
A: Per page 19 here:

The Yale 112 1/fF is the model for Outswinging doors and the principle difference is the 1/4F version comes packaged with flat strike,

We can indeed provide one of each of the two locks needed for you keyed alike for a nominal fee.

Regarding your mention of the other email pertaining to another lock, we have not yet received this email - so please feel free to resend -

Q: I had to swap out 3 of these today due to fire codes not allowing double cylinder locks on residential home. They mainly called me because they couldn’t find the key and two doors were stuck locked and the 3rd, the front door, they couldn’t lock. We went with ILCO version of the single cylinder jimmy proof which covered the existing holes nicely. Thanks for sharing!
A: I believe code permits double cylinder deadbolts when occupancy load is 3 or less depending on the ?occupancy load.

When I come across the section in NFPA 101 that I am thinking of I will post it here. But of course the AHJ has the final say.

Q: HI Rich, Saw your video on the Yale 112 1/4. Yes we have 5 of these locks in our mid century house. These were installed in 1956. I painted one using Rustoleum Universal primer and Krylon High Heat black paint. It came out fine except it is a little too shiny for our taste. We want to refinish some of the others. I know you say the color is bronze. Can you recommend a specific paint (and color) so we can get as close as possible to the original. Thanks in advance for your help.
A: RAL 1002 or RAL 1020 might not be too terribly far off the mark.
