Q: Hello, I just talked to someone there about a Schlage B250PD thumb turn ring adapter for 2 1/8" hole in oil rubbed bronze. I spoke to a very polite gentleman that was going to see if I could just buy the one side and give me a price. Also, in a Rich Howard video he mentions a cheaper alternative to the Schlage B250PD, what do you have? I'm installing some electric strikes and most of the doors do not have a keyed deadlatch door knob that was so common in the past. Most of the doors use a dead bolt only for the lock and the traditional door handle is just a dummy, no lock at all. My thought is to replace the dead bolts with the Deadlatch - Nightlatch so an electric strike can be used. I see Hes has an electric strike that can capture a deadbolt but that thing is massive. I like the Trine 3234 because its so small and can hold 1200 pounds of force. So it seems that if you couple the Schlage B250PD or similar with the Trine 3234 you will have a much stronger door than with the existing deadbolt. The only down side it seems is that a 1 inch deadbolt will resist a crowbar trying to separate the door from the jamb. The Schlage B250PD deadlatch extends almost 5/8 of an inch and with a 7/8 inch diameter looks heavy duty, but what do you think about this crowbar spreading the jamb problem, or is it? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim.
A: First I must caution that the Trine 3234 is not the correct strike for this application as the cavity depth is only 1/2" as seen here:

as the projection of the latchbolt on the B250 is 9/16". I would suggest a model that can accommodate a latch bolt with a greater projection.
Regarding an alternate, there is one I use by an importer but the quality of the Schlage is so excellent that I would prefer to use this model (and only the other if cost, and not quality, was the very most critical option.
At the beginning you asked if the interior trim ring, for under the thumb turn, was available as a stand alone part. It indeed is and the part number is 38-032 xxx (where xxx is the finish and in your case 38-032 613).
Regarding latch protectors, Don-Jo has several options. This are several good potential units seen here in the G section:

Q: The stile is 4" wide where the lock set goes on the main gate. I need a 2" thick lockset that will operate with an electric striker for that gate, but no handle because that gate will have the 18" offset handles that I recently ordered through you. Ideally, the lockset would be keyed on the outside with a thumb turn on the inside. Do they make such a thing? On the smaller gates (1-5/8" thick), I want a bronze lever type opener rather than a knob and they could be locking, but it's not essential because we will have the deadbolts. I appreciate your help on this.
A: On the deadbolt prep in the gate is there an existing preparation or will you be drilling the holes to suit the lock?
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with.
Q: Holes will be drilled
A: This is easy for you. The Schlage B250 series will handle all your gate conditions and the electric strike simply needs to accommodate the 9/16" latch projection (there are several options available for this). Shall I call you to arrange the final details of this project?
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with.
Q: I would like to install with on an apartment building. I would like to disable the hold back feature. Does anyone know if this is possible?
A: I would not attempt to disable the hold back feature on your existing thumbturn but would simply replace it with the Schlage B202-671 without holdback thumbturn and can be reviewed on the 91'st page here:

Q: I need some help selecting the correct lock for my front gate. I'd like to get the single cylinder Schlage night latch, but there are many models to choose from. I'd like a more secure key, ideally with controlled copying of keys. The hole where the current lock is seems to be a about 2.25 inches diameter. The box where they latch is installed is about 4.5 inches to the back, although the current latch is around 3.5 inches from the edge of the door to the back of the latch. I'm attaching pictures in case that helps. Many thanks Jonathan
A: I have reviewed the images of your lock and have the perfect solution. First question. Regarding the keyway. Do you want the keyway restricted where only you can have copies made or do you simply want an unusual keyway that will prevent copies from being made at the common hardware / big box stores?
Q: What is the price difference between them? I'd like the lock to be able to be rekeyed if necessary, and to be difficult to duplicate. Its for the front gate of my home. Thanks, JP?
A: Do you want it difficult or impossible for someone other than you to duplicate?
Q: Appreciate your YouTube video about the Schlage B250 night latch. Question: On my B250, the cylinder continues to turn even after the tailpiece fully engages the latch. In other words the tail piece does not stop the cylinder from turning. I think the tailpiece is okay. So, can a local locksmith repair the cylinder?
A: Please disassemble the lock and email me a photo of the tailpiece and the backside of the cylinder showing the threaded cap. Email to our contact information mentioned below.

Q: I would like to install with on an apartment building. I would like to disable the hold back feature. Does anyone know if this is possible??
A: Lloyd - thanks for sharing. Which Schlage series thumbturn please would you suggest? To be sure people order the correct unit, Schlage offers a non-hold back thumbturn for the B250 (for fire rated door applications) which is the Schlage B202-671 and can be purchased here:

Q: That model you specified appears to be the perfect match. I was able to use the thumb turn off a older Schlage deadbolt, sorry not sure the model number. Looked pretty standard though, I think your everyday home depot one would be compatible too.?
A: The only model that would have worked was the old Schlage B100 series as the thumbturn and the B250 have the same center dimensions for the bolts through both the thumbturn and latchbolt. I am all but positive the B60 (the current Schlage deadbolt) will not work, but if someone confirms it does, please post your findings back here.
Q: Appreciate the education on Deadlatch. We have a door to garage w/a deadlatch that we have used for over 10 years - we simply slam door and it closed - never an issue. All of a sudden the deadlatch is in a LOCK position when door is open and we swing it to close and it bounces off the plate because the deadlatch will not retract. It will retract if we turn the knob - so now we have to turn the knob to close the door - wife says this is unacceptable. Do I need a new door knob / deadlatch or is this repairable ?
A: Please email me a photograph of the latchbolt and lock for further review.

Thank you for your consideration.
Q: Is there a B250 series lock with a blank plate on the outside?
A: The manufacturer states
No such product exists.
that is certainly correct, schlage does not have a lock in their arsenal that would be a slam latch that would include a blank plate on the exterior side with a thumb turn on the interior side.
Having said that however I'm rather confident something can be fabricated to suit the conditions so please send to us a description of the door and the lock that you currently have if any and the preparation in the existing door if any.
Q: Hi. I really enjoyed your video on the Schlage EB51 on my front door :
It works fine but needs the outside brass polished and lacquered. Now having seen your video, I realize that I can’t replace it easily so I need to take care of it.
Two more things.

Also, can you tell me the model number of my Schlage interior door handles and privacy locks? They have a ring on one side that turns continuously. Photo here:

You tighten on the other side with a tool with a pin in it.
Anyway, I have lost one of the pins for the privacy lock (i.e. bathroom door) and am having a hard time finding it.
Thanks.
A: Thank you very much for the kind words and of course the link to the door and hardware security video I have not watched it through and through but I will do so at some point in the near future. do feel free to keep those coming my way - LOL.
Regarding your grip handle you may be able to have it removed cleaned and polished or replated and then re-lacquered. I don't think it'll look as good as original from the factory but it will sure look a lot better than failed lacquer and then failed polish, plating underneath.
Regarding your trouble with the privacy set you have, that was the Mediterranean Series and in fact I bet the part number of your specific privacy set was the ME40 x AST x 605 (ME = series, 40 = function, AST = Asti lever, 605 = polished brass).
If my memory serves me correct this line was introduced in 1991, had a run of about 9 - years until the series was discontinued in 2000. My opinion is that the ME series was very good quality, solid brass components and on par with other mid-level decorative hardware options in the marketplace at the time. In fact I thought it competed extremely well against products that were substantially more expensive. I recall there was an early problem with the latch bolt design where they did not work predictably in the sense that you could rock the trim back and forth and get the privacy to open but if my memory serves me that was resolved relatively early in the initial run of product.
Regarding your need of a replacement privacy pin, you might hunt around on the online auction sites to see if you can come up with replacement hardware I would expect that you'll find something online although that privacy pain will end up being a costly piece - you might try to determine what thread type that is and make one yourself or something that will emulate the function required.
Q: Can I have this hold-back feature keeps latch retracted on a double cylinder lock ?
A: There is no hold back function on a double cylinder slam latch.
Q: Can you put a primus cylinder in a B250?
A: Schlage does not offer the B250 with Primus and it cannot be ordered less cylinder.
It is possible to install a Primus cylinder as a Primus cylinder will fit into a B250 housing as long as it was ordered with a 6 pin cylinder (B250 can be ordered as 5 and 6 pin but Primus is 6 pin only). The lock will have to be ordered as B250P6 and any Primus key-in-lever cylinder will work once you have removed the tailpiece and installed the driver.
Also- Make sure that the customer uses an Everest/Primus driver to tip in the tailpiece. Driver: B502-949 - Everest/Primus and all Modular cylinders.
Q: What grade is the B250 and is this product UL listed?
A: According to the manufacturer:
The B250 is Grade 2 but has no UL listing due to the holdback rose.
Having said that, you are able to purchase a non hold back open rose which would be the part number B202-671 and can be purchased here:
However using the non-hold back some turn does not permit the unit to be used in a ul-listed required application.
Q: Wish I would have known about the regular thumb turn. I’ve had to installed a bunch of these with the stock thumb turned upside down so the hold does not engage.
A: The holdback feature of the standard Schlage B250PD would work regarding less of you install the thumbturn, but why are you installing them upside down?
Q: Because if you install the standard thumb turn right side up, the hold mechanism engages automatically. You have to keep pressing the button back up every time you open it.
A: The hold open feature is only activated when you slide it up while the thumb turn is rotated 90°. When installing the standard hold back some turn install it in the orientation where it will not automatically slide down and hold the last retracted.
Q: Is this product UL listed?
A: The B250PD has no UL listing. Hoewever Marks USA does manufacturer their 145K as seen here:
Download File
and is UL Listed, 3 hour fire rated and as a result certainly does not come with a hold back feature like the Schlage product does.
This Marks USA 145K can be purchased at the link as seen here:

Q: Explain the holdback feature for the B250.
A: The B250 Night Latch is a single cylinder deadlocking latchbolt where the latch is retracted by a key from the outside or by the inside thumbturn. Rotating the thumbturn and activating the holdback slide will keep the latch retracted. See picture below illustrating the holdback slide on top and bottom of the rose as seen here:
