Q: Hello! First let me say I found your store via your youtube video about the B250. I was having problems with mine and wanted to patronize your store as a thanks for the video. I think my problem stems from the door's bore being 2 1/8". I bought an adapter ring from my hardware store, but turning the key doesn't engage the lock. I think the thickness of the rings allow the tailpiece to slip off. I think the next step is to buy the official 38-017 kit. First question: on your store (http://absupply.net/schlage-38-017-adapter-kit-for-b250-series.aspx) you list antique brass as 612. My understanding was that 609 is the code for antique brass. If I own the B250PD-609, will it match? Second question: I have a hollow steel door. In the manual for the B250 it says hollow doors should use the door reinforcement kit, part # 37-001. I have a 1 3/4" thick door. Do you sell this part? The manual I'm reading is online here (http://us.allegion.com/IRSTDocuments1/106484.pdf) on page 26. Looking forward to hearing from you! Happy to talk via email or phone, whichever is best for you. Thanks.
A: I think I can explain the issue with the lock not working after adding the trim rings.
When this B250 (one of my personal all time favorite locks) as seen here:

and it will come with 2 - different trim rings collars (not the 38-017) and 2 - sets of tailpieces if you are working with a B252PD double cylinder

unit and will accommodate 1 3/8" and 1 3/4". Furthermore these are made as 5 pin and 6 - pin length cylinder bodies as well. All of this conspires to potentially allow your effective door thickness greater than the sum of the parts you have (collar and tailpiece) installed. The link here see page 3 will help:

Regarding the 37-001
Schlage 37-001 reinforcing unit is used to reinforce and help
prevent the collapse of hollow metal doors when locksets are
tightly mounted. This kit should be used with long backsets for
A-Series lock installations in hollow metal doors to prevent
lateral movement of the latch bolt. Specify door thickness, 1?
or 1¾, when ordering reinforcement kits.
I am tempted to say this item is not required and if you do not currently have the issue this item is designed to mitigate, I would pass on it.
We do sell the 38-017. The proper code and description for the 2 - finishes as discussed is:
612 Satin Bronze
609 Antique Brass
And a full finish chart is here:

And the 38-017 trim ring set here: lists those finishes in this format:

Before we resolve your installation issue tell me this: Was this lock previous installed and in perfect working order?
