Q: My name is Jason. I'm looking for a residential door knob that will accept a schlage cylinder with c123 keyway that is afforadble I need this in satin nickle The specs on the Arrow MK-11 say it is available in this finish but I cannot find it anywhere. I'd like to be $50-$75 on the knobs.
Any thoughts?
A: Yes I do have thoughts on this and thank you for asking. Let's start with definitions:
Standard keyways are C, CE, E, EF, F, FG, G, H, J, K, L. All other keyways are considered restricted which the C123 keyway which belongs to the Everest family.
Everest and Everest 29 Open (C & S keyways) include non-Primus products with Everest C and Everest 29 S keyways and key sections. Schlage only sells Everest and Everest 29 Open products to commercial security professionals. Commercial security professionals purchasing Everest and Everest 29 Open products from Schlage are permitted to stock and to originate or duplicate keys without signature verification.
The crucial part of the above is the “ without signature verification”. In essence this means we can sell you a cylinder with the keyway that you are requesting. This is the good part.
You've mentioned that you are looking for a residential door knob and that's where the trouble comes in. I'm assuming when you say residential you might intend to infer something from the Schlage F-series family but unfortunately you will not be able to obtain an Everest C129 keyway in a residential lock.
However you have mentioned that you like the Arrow MK11. It would prove indeed possible to supply you with the cylinder only and then have you install it into a stock Arrow MK11 which are indeed available in satin nickel.
However I do believe that your best interest would be to order a Schlage A53 lock and simply specify that lock as to include the C123 keyway that you would like. I understand that your logic of ordering the Arrow lock as it has a lower list price than the Schlage but when you add the difference in the cost and buying the cylinder outright and given the fact that the Schlage lock in my opinion and I think many others is superior to the Arrow lock, you are going to be better off in the long run by simply ordering a grade 2 commercial lock that would have a knob trim from Schlage, through us, with the C123.
Having said all of the above - there is no way to achieve this lock, with the cylinder you want in the price rand you have specified.
I would be interested to know your thoughts on this matter.
