Q: Can someone explain the side cuts on this key, I ordered a blank of what I thought was the right key but the blank has a different groove pattern on the side, does the sude need to be cut or did I order the wrong blank, I am attaching pics of the key and blank,:

My daughter's apartment building entrance door, you are only allowed 1 key, I was going to make a spare but not sure what blank I need.

A: The short answer is that what you ordered was a Schlage Everest key blank (garden variety) and the system at your daughter's apartment is a Schlage Everest Primus..
The latter is a highly restricted system that the facility invested a tremendous amount of money into so as to have total control over key blanks and cut keys that will operate within the system.
That six digit number is a system registry number that ties the system back at the factory to a particular installation and a particular path of distribution.
Unfortunately there will be no path of obtaining additional cut keys or key blanks working outside of the standard established policy at the place of installation.
