Q: Hello Rich, thank you for the informative video. I am interested in hanging a 250+ lb door (4'x8') on a pivot hinge. However, I would like to move the pivot point about 6" from the door frame. Can this hinge be used for that application? If not, what hinge would you recommend? Thank you, Dan
A: No problem with moving the vertical axis of pivoting over 6" from the door edge.

Q: Richard, Is there a pivot out there that would handle a an 8ft wide door if you put the pivot in the center (4ft from each side?) that was less than 600lbs? Would this pivot be able to do that?
A: I would be tempted to say that the Rixson 117-3/4 Pivot Set would very much handle the installation although the width of your door exceeds what the unit is engineered for and as a result my official recommendation would be for you to consider the next largest version of this pivot hardware which would be the Rixson H117-3/4 Pivot Set as seen here:

Q: Richard thank you for the post first of all! Im wanting to learn more about this specific pivot hardware, my question is if im building a steel frame for my door and im having all glass in between the door. Does the bottom and top arms have to be flush with the material of steel ill be using? I assume we can weld these arms on? I imagine I would have to cut into the steel at the correct depth and length for the arms to sit flush.... am i on the right track here?

A: I would say yes you are certainly on the right track and it would be accurate to say that the top pivot certainly does need to be flush but depending on the undercut that you wish to achieve the bottom arm while it can be flush is generally not flush.
