Pemko CAM500 Cam for Automatic Door Bottoms

The CAM500 is used when mounting the Automatic Door Bottom on the Pull (rather than the Push side) side of a door. In an application when mounting on the pull side, there is no stop to make contact with plunger when door is closed. This application will require the CAM500 as it is surface mounted on the face of the jamb, and importantly, on the lock side of the door (not the hinge side of the door as when an automatic door bottom is mounted on the push side) allowing the cam to depress the plunger. Q: Can the CAM500 the installed on the hinge jamb? The application we have is where we have a pair of doors that are exterior and swing out. And we want the door bottoms on the ingress side it seems to me that there is no answer for a pair of doors using the cam 500 Does the factory have any sort of option when it comes to a pair of doors?

A: Thank you for the information. You cannot use the CAM on the hinge jamb with the ADB’s plunger on the hinge side when the ADB is mounted to the exterior of outswing doors. The ADB case and the CAM will bind together as the doors approach full open inhibiting the doors operation and the swing of the door will cause the plunger to get damaged or lodged in the opening. The best option here is to mount the ADB on the inside with activation on the soffit or to use a mortised auto door bottom to activate on the rabbet.
