Q: I found your YouTube videos. I'm a contractor in Arizona. I'm bidding on a job that will require these products and quantities. Pemko 411APKL 30 [4] Pemko 411APKL 36 [7] Pemko 411APKL 28 [1] Will you please provide me with a quote on those? Also, how long will it take to receive them. Thank you,
A: all set and thanks - an email quote / confirmation has just sent to the email address you provided.
Q: One change please. I remembered that one of the doors is a pocket door. I can see how this device could work if we locked the pocket door. However, we won't be able to lock the door. Do you have anything that will seal the bottom of a pocket door?
A: Do you want an automatic door bottom for this sliding door ?
Q: Yes. If possible and if you can locate one.
A: Sure it is:

For this answer I will use the term "sliding" in lieu of the term "pocket" as a pocket door has more than one meaning in the world
commercial door applications.
A sliding door will require a different type of automatic door bottom vs. a swinging door.
The difference is that a sliding pocket door would not properly tolerate an automatic door bottom where the drop seal does not drop evenly onto the floor. The primary difference is that in a swinging door application the drop seal will immediately begin to drop on the underside of the unit, which is also the hinge side of the unit.
A swinging type automatic door bottom will fully seal the bottom of the door when the door is brought to the 100% complete door closed position.
If you were to use a swinging door type automatic door bottom in a sliding door application you would find that you would be making premature contact of the sealed with the floor before before the door was in the complete closed position.
There is a model of door bottom that will drop evenly across the entire length of the automatic door bottom making it more appropriate for a sliding door application.

functions differently from other ZERO door bottoms. When the plunger is compressed, the mechanism causes the insert seal to activate and drop evenly along the door bottom.
this model would be the correct type of automatic door bottom to use for a sliding door.

Q: Richard, I was on the job site last week and noticed that the space between the door bottom and carpet in some of the rooms is 7/8" or even 1". Is there another product that can seal a gap that big?
A: are you sealing on top of carpet ?
Q: Yes. The door bottom seal will press down on Commercial carpet. So nothing fluffy or Shaggy.
A: You would really want to use a bristle as the insert and not Pemko Prene and Pemko does not have a model that is both bristle and will drop greater than 3/4"
Luckily the National Guard Products 682 36" Mill Finish Aluminum Automatic Door Bottom with Nylon Brush insert - Heavy Duty - Mortise Mount as seen here:

will give you a Max Drop: 7/8"

Q: Hi Richard, I have a technical question about the Pemko ADB 411_PKL this is the full mortise version. Can it be installed and function well on a door with an uneven gap below? or is it best practice to under cut the door to make the gap even
A: Automatic door bottoms will generally drop first on the hinge side and then scissors in a downward motion until it makes a complete seal along the entire length of the door. having said that should your gap be smaller on the hinge side you will not have any trouble whatsoever however if it is opposite or if it is a wavy sill than an automatic door bottom may not be ultimately the best option.
Q: So if the gap is larger on the hinge side I should undercut the door to make it even all across?
A: On the hinge side then the problem is going to be that it will begin to drop on the hinge side but will not discontinue the downward motion until it comes in contact with the sill but by that time you're likely already to be making premature contact with the sill on the lock side.
I would very much recommend that you install the unit so that it is parallel to the sill regardless of how that is accomplished.
Q: When using the 411 what do you recommend for door undercut on top of the finished floor. I have 5/8" tile and want to know how much more I should undercut the door with the 411
A: I would personally leave the door run as long as possible and I'd like to see not more than 1/4 inch but you would have to be mindful of the very real possibility that your floor is not going to be level.
A standard undercut for a wood door might be 3/8" of an inch maybe 1/2". Allow the floor condition to dictate but try to be as close to 1/4" as possible.
Q: How do i search for Pemko automatic door bottom replacement gaskets

Q: I’m manufacturing the steel door. I dont know if the mortise goes all the way along the bottom, including the Locks side. I dont have the automatic door bottom., Im sending the door and they are going to install it on site. Is there a plate for the edge on the lock side?
A: If you were to install the Pemko 411APKL Automatic Door Bottom with Pemko Prene insert - Mill Finish Aluminum - Full Mortise Mount yes the mortise would go completely all the way through the edge of the door and completely out each side. There are cover plates that go over the edge of the preparation, however can you tell me more information about the construction of your steel door - specifically can you send photographs of the bottom side of the bottom rail of the unit? Id like to understand the construction of your door so that I can make perhaps a more focused product suggestion.
Q: Can the Pemko 411ARL be used on a hollow metal door? If so, is there a template to prep the door?
A: The Pemko 411APKL 36" Automatic Door Bottom with Pemko Prene insert - Mill Finish Aluminum - Full Mortise Mount
is incorrect for a hollow metal door application.
