Q: Thank you for your very informative web site. Excellent.
Have a few items I need and want to make sure I am ordering the right stuff:
1) Door threshold as pictured. I believe this will be Pemko 8451. I will need it cut to length and different lengths for inside and outside plates, if you can do. Can I order on line and specify that or should I call in for the specifc cuts size? My only question is that the existing one I have is even taller than the 8451, maybe by 1/4" lowest to highest point. Dont know exact, as I the one I cut out I threw away. The one picture is installed on other door and is hard to know exact measurments, although low point is 1", high point probably 1 1/4". Do you have another threshold to match my original exactly?
2) Would like to replace weather strip on threshold pictured. Is that possible, and do you have?
3) Need to replace weather strip on jamb that is pictured. It is channeled in to original door jamb set. What shoud I use?
4) Also have another interior door jamb that I need to replace weatherstrip. The Home Depot crap keeps coming loose, twisting, compressing etc. What do you suggest for it? Stop on this door is 3/16" I believe.
Please let me know. Thanks for your help.
Brian
A: 1. Custom notching can be reviewed and quoted on a case by case basis. Send us a sketch and we will review. Regarding the height, I think you might consider using the
Pemko 183A Mill Finish Aluminum Commercial Elevator as seen here to lift up the threshold installation to suit your sill conditions:

2. The image you show is the threshold in question and yes you can order the replacement seal insert for it. Assuming you need the insert for the Pemko 8451AQ you would need the
Pemko Q107BL Foam Kerf-in Weatherstrip seal as seen here:
3. Likely for the two jambs and the header you can use the same Pemko Q107 but can you tell me from the link provided above, will the 7/16" projection, here as well:

work? There are different projections and I can suggest another if 7/16" is not correct.
4. Regarding the interior door, can you forward me a photo of what you are looking to replace / upgrade?
Q: Working on placing order for weatherstripping and threshold, Have had correspondence regarding both. Still have questions before I do.
1) What is water pan for Pemko 8451 threshold. Do I need?
2) Have poorly crafted interior door that needs new weaterstripping and stops are poorly placed. I can remove and replace if needed to get best closure and seal. What weatherstripping and what stops if you are recommending replacing them. Are kerf cut interior stops available? I had emailed images of this door. Please advise best method to fix weather stripping permanently. Refer to last email if you have access. Stops are 1/4" wide.
3) Do you have pocket door privacy latch in Antique Brass 2 7/8: tall at pull? This is taller than average ones.
Thank you again. Please advise today. Need to get my order placed.
A: A water pan is a thin piece of sheet metal that simply installs under the threshold and on top of the sill. A water pan is made of either aluminum or brass and acts as a barrier between the sub sill and underside of threshold. Do you need? No - but I would order and deceive at the time of installation whether or not to use. The aluminum pan will certainly help prevent deterioration of the wood sub-structure of the Pemko 8451AQ Aluminum Outswing Fixed Bumper Sill Residential Threshold.
Regarding the stops - are you planning on replacing them? Regarding kerf cut stops, I am not a millwork expert but have never seen these available commercially.
Regarding the pocket door privacy latch in antique brass we have a unit that is 2-3/4" tall as seen here:

Q: Great. Thanks for your good service. Re interior door, question #4, see attached. The door is not lined up correctly with the stop in all areas, I may have to re do the stops, but nonetheless the weather stripping keeps coming off on the hinge side and at the header. You can see the void where it was, and where it still is on handle side. On handle side it is too fat probably causing door to not close well in humid conditions (which in Florida is all the time) , and on hinge side it was so full that it pushed it out of the way and had to be pulled off. Let me know your suggestions. Order to follow. Thanks again. Brian Corser
A: Are you planning to remove and replace the stops?
Q: Thanks Rich. Hate to be a pest, know you are busy. Let me know how best to handle interior door weather-stripping issue. 3/16" poorly placed stops that I can remove and replace if needed for best results. Yes, I will remove and replace them if that gives me best results for permanent fix and possibly using kerf in. Would need kerf cut stops though, and don't know if readily available. What are best weatherstipping options here? Need to get my order in to work to you.
A: If the door is not warped and you can maintain a constant gap between the face of the stop and the face of the door - I would suggest the Pemko Q107W Foam Kerf-in Weatherstrip as seen here:
that link will simply show you the same item in all listed lengths.
If you want to leave the stops you might simply add the Pemko 330PWV 24" Painted White Aluminum Standard Perimeter Gasketing as seen here:
My thought is the angle design will allow you to compensate for the poorly fitting condition you have (perhaps caused by door warp, a toed or twisted jamb(s) or simply crooked stops).
I am curious to know is yur trouble with this door is seasonal as I have found a change is humidity can make a door / frame simply behave differently.
