Q: Hi, I'm trying to find a door bottom to fit this door. The door has a slot (kerf?) at the bottom. There isn't a lot of clearance between the door bottom and the threshold. The last one I bought (see below) didn't quite fit - the door was hard to open and close, and now it's junk. The original door bottom had a fin that fit into the slot/kerf. The thickness of the door is 1-13/16" and the width is 34-1/4". I'd appreciate your advice. I can't find the right part anywhere. I have 1/4" on the hinge side and 3/16" on the other. The aluminum channel on the door bottom that I just took off was 3/16", so there was no clearance for the vinyl.
A: Thank you for the image and I would suggest two ideas.
1. Pait or seal the bottom of the door. The raw wood invites a very premature expiration for your door.
2. I would abandon the idea of something mounted below the door. Your margin is too tight for this, however your margin is all but perfect for an automatic door bottom.
You can surface mount an automatic door bottom as seen here:

Automatic Door Bottoms are elegant solutions to make door sealing scenerios including your in my opinion. The are long lasting, very effective, maintenance free and will tolerate an unlevel sill condition. Please review the above data.

Q: Rich, Thanks for the info. I can see the benefits of an automatic door bottom, but I'm not sure it would work well in this case. Firstly, I have two ribs on the door, so the ADB woudn't quite be flush with the door (so I'd have to seal it and it would look a bit odd), and secondly, the plunger would be hitting a rubber gasket. Do you have any conventional door bottoms that would work? The original one lasted 15+ years.
A: Lets simply focus on replacing and matching the original item. What was the original item?
