The unnotched verison is the typical unit that you were going to use in commercial or residential applications.
The notched version is specifically used in hotel or motel applications where there is an air conditioning / heating unit within the room. The next version allows there to be a source of fresh air a fresh air source to feed or to supply the air conditioning and heating unit with fresh air. The underside of the door bottom is going to have notches in a staggered pattern to allow that fresh air to enter the room.
