Unfortunately there is no direct replacement for these old units. Would need to replace with an available current closer based on the application. See here for document to help with choosing the right surface mount closer.

He is winding it the correct way for a left hand door with a corner bracket. What I noticed is when he free spins the sprocket, there should not be that much spinning. I would guess this has a broken spring. A lot of people wind them the wrong way the first time, and then break them, then do it correctly and they don’t work.
Let me know what you need me to do. He should always set them at 3 clicks past tension and that should be his spot for all of them. The probable cause for the door swinging open in this instance is
