Q: I'm trying to find if there's any guidance to actually replacing the dogging device on the Jackson 1285. I can't seem to get the plate off to get at the device.
A: See page 9 here:

you will want to remove the base cap so you can slide out the Cover Plate Package to get your Push Bar pulled out.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with.
Q: Already done, but the control arm hardware (#3 on page 9) hold the entire assembly in place. The entire cover plate package won't move until I get the push bar out. I can only get one leg of the control arm released, the rest is concealed. Number 63 (small numbers, push bar cap) that holds the dogging device cannot be removed without pulling both control arms, one of which is behind number 63 to the point that it cannot be taken off. Any advice would help,

Q: Hello, I'm looking for the dogging assembly for a Jackson 2085 exit device. It is the older hex key dogging assembly. Someone said it might be part # 30-1213
A: does this item look like it would work:
https://absupply.net/jackson-30-2462-dogging-assembly-rhr-15150.aspx
Q: No, that is the push button type. I'm looking for the hex key type. See attached picture of the 2085 with the hole in the bar for the hex key. And if not Do you think the part# 30-2670 dogging assembly for the 1285 and 1295 device would work? I know the device is different than the 2085, but they are both push pad exit devices.
A: Ahh - I see the front dogging is obsolete. While we have never attempted to make the 30-2670 work in the 2085, it is my strong opinion is not it would not work -
Q: Thought you might be interested in case you run across this situation again. Jackson recommended installing a new exit device because the part is obsolete. I used part# 30-2670 dogging assembly for the 1285 and 1295 device in the 2085 with very little modification and it works fine. See attached photos. New part on left.
A: Thank you very much for sharing - we have posted this back to our site and we will provide your images and experiences with anyone who asks.
Q: I have a customer with four Jackson 1285 exit devices. Two of the units have been having trouble dogging. The units are 10 years old. Is this a common problem? If so, do I need to install the Dogging assembly 30-2670 ? Thanks, Harold
A: I would not classify your symtoms as a common problem, but it is indeed common to replace the Jackson Dogging assembly 30-2670 1285 and 1295 Exit Devices on this units where a significant amount of dogging cycles are performed. In short, it is a common replacement part.

Q: does the cylinder dogging on a 1295 require a special cam?
A: It is my general understanding that the cylinder dogged version of the 1295 series exit device does require a modified standard cam - Ive reached out to the manufacturer and ask for further information but they are unable to provide any and state that cylinder dogging is not available as a retrofit to an existing hex key dogging unit and suggest that if cylinder dogging is required to replace the entire exit device.
