This is a hatch we private labeled for O'keefe ladders. We use to make hatches and smoke vents for them. They no longer make hatches at all. They have the correct lift springs. With the springs being new the hatch will have heavy spring tension. The door will have to be slammed shut. The door will pop open almost all the way with the new springs since they have never been compressed.
regarding the question when I asked about cutting the springs the manufacturer replied:
We do not recommend cutting or modifying the pressure intensifiers for any reason. We manufacture them to work specifically for this model hatch and to lift the hatch lid to ensure it will not harm personnel. Any modifications can cause injury to personnel. The springs will gradually have less tension as the springs are compressed after regular use.
