Q: I have church with a vestibule installation with two pairs of doors. One door of each pair has a SW100 operator, and there are three wireless push plates. I want to eliminate the push plates and make the doors automatic. Can you make a recommendation and quote as to what sensors I should use? I have in mind an Eagle motion sensor and maybe the LZR Flatscan presence sensors.
A: Halt. What you are considering is changing Low Energy doors into high energy doors.
A working knowledge of ANSI A117.10 & ANSI A117.19 is mandatory. My answer is to contact a local automatic door expert is my official response and allow that person to do the install.
Q: If the SW100 operators and the wireless push plates are retained, would the addition of the Eagle Motion sensor change the classification from Low Energy to High Energy?
A: Adding a sensor is when a powered opening graduates from Low Energy to High Energy regardless of the presence of wall/jamb actuators. Each type has a different ANSI standard they must adhere to for compliance.
