Adams Rite Bottom Rail Deadlock (one point) MS1861-01
Product Features
  • Using the same overcenter/pivot locking mechanism as the basic MS deadbolt, the MS1861 lies horizontally in the bottom rail of ultra-narrow stile doors, which have insufficient vertical space for a lock and tempered glass doors, which have no stile at all
  • The hardened steel cylindrical bolt allow simple drilled strike holes of a relatively small size to minimize the nuisance and
danger presented by some threshold strikes in collecting debris and catching women's heels.

Questions and Answers
Q: is it a U-Change cylinder
A: The Adams Rite MS1861-01 Deadlock Bottom Rail does not include a cylinder but a compatible cylinder would be the Adams Rite 4036-01 KA 628 Mortise Cylinder - Aluminum as seen here:

Although the Adams Rite Bottom Rail deadbolt can work with most common mortise cylinders based on your needs.

U-change, to my understanding is a system by which you can easily, albeit with the use of a special tool, allow you to lock out the existing key and permit a new key to work the cylinder in seconds. My concern with the U-change system is it's convenience meaning to make a new key pass and locking out the existing key requires only the existing key and a tool that may be easily reproducible and a new U-change keyblank which would prove difficult to source direct from the manufacturer but not so when conducting a search in the internets most popular online aution site (although to this I do not have all the facts). I do see and have for about 25 - years (I understand this product has been on the market since the early 1970's), seen the U-change cylinder show up in specifications but does not occur too often. A review of this system from the manufacturer can be reviewed here:

Q: Richard, Please provide a template that shows the dimension from the vertical door edge to the edge of the mounting plate for the Adams Rite MS1861-01. Lots of help for the MS1861-02 but not for the MS1861-01. Thank You,
A: 4-1/2" per page two, right side of the template as seen here:
