I provided the Kaba mechanical push button exterior on these Adams Rite mortise cases. The owners want a un keyed lever on the outside now. They no longer feel the need to lock these doors. They have had several problems with the Kaba trim. Can you suggest a lever that would work on the outside in place of the Kaba? I believe the mortise case was a 4511. I would need 7 of them. I will need to verify quantity - Rick D
A: I would consider installing the 4560
as seen here:

surface mounting the lever as, according to Adams Rite, the two cams plugs mounted Back to Back BTB and is not an issue.
Or if your client is not having good luck with the Kaba Trim, you can possibly try the Adams Rite eForce version as seen here:

Q: I have removed an Adams Rite deadbolt function and install installing an Adams Rite 4510 deadlatch function so as to comply with the requirements of my local AHJ authority having jurisdiction, the inspector. Can you tell me how best to proceed and prep the edge of the inactive door for the parts that I have as seen in the following photographs:

A: Thank you for the email and coming back to us after the sale for technical support.
We discussed on the phone that the first component of your installation is to confirm he height of the strike and the height of the zinc plated backing plate is long enough so as to allow you a mounting point at the bottom of the preparation in the inactive door and also so as to allow you to achieve a centerline dimension between the centerline of latch and the centerline of the hole that's in the strike plate. You have confirmed that you have enough room so as to be able to achieve both conditions.
You also asked what the black plastic adapter was for and that is simply to allow you to achieve a proper strike oriented based on the hand of the door meaning when you remove that white decal from the strike plate itself you'll see that there are two holes in that strike and they do that so as to allow a non-handed version of that strike and that you use the black plastic adapter behind the strike and on top of the reinforcing bracket or the mounting bracket to both close off the unused hole but to provide a dustbox function behind the whole that you will use.
The next and final step of the installation will be to prep the edge of the door to the profile of the strike plate (a router with a template, jigsaw or dremel) drill and countersink the two holes, one at the top and the other at the bottom, to allow you to secure the zinc reinforcing bracket to the door itself and then attach the black dust box and the strike plate with the screws supplied directly to that mounting bracket.
Q: I am having trouble getting the lock to stay in the unlocked position. I'll get it there and then it will pop back out before the door closes. Is there something I can do to get it to work correctly?
A: According to the manufacturer:
A reverse turn of the key while the bolt is held retracted retains the bolt to allow two-way traffic.
Has your bolt worked previously in the dogged open position or has it never worked correctly?
Q: Is it possible to pick a deadlatch? I am upgrading my security, I find it's hard finding good information without looking like criminal sometimes.
A: Thank you for the question -The proper term is "Loiding" and yes you can certainly loid a deadlatch especially those that have been installed incorrectly.
