Q: Hi Richard, I appreciate all your video posts on Adamsrite hardware. I’ve a customer with a double door aluminum frame glass door three point locking system. The active door is having problems locking consistently and I think it has to do with the lower bolt and or bolt guide.
Some other company installed a mag lock on the active door and prevents out swinging of the active door. There is a little more clearance on the outside of the premises.
The actual problem is that it’s sometimes difficult to lock up at night. I cut a key with bigger bow (head) that offers a little more torque to overcome whatever is obstructing the bolt from going down into the floor; I’m just guessing this is the problem bc if a little assist on the laminated bolt in center of door with a pry tool it eventually can lock both the active and passive door.
Wondering if the guide can be removed without removing the mag lock on the header? Then if after I remove the two mounting screws I can inspect the bolt and the bolt guide from the inside where there is little to no bottom clearance. Can’t recall if the guide can be removed from the inside of the door and not the bottom. Apologize for the long explanation. Certainly appreciate all those videos you have on AR hardware !
Mag locks installed on top of header prevent marginal bottom access to guide. Havent wanted to remove mag locks especially if it doesnt help me resolve the intermittent ability to lock door with key for the outside.
Swinging active door inwards gives no access to bottom of door. If I remove Adamsrite lock and rod going into floor was worrying if I could get it to seat in the bottom guide when I reinstall the assembly. Trying to avoid the worst case scenario of removing the whole active door on the right side. There are two screws on the bottom of the active door that probably secure the lower rod guide
Hopefully these pictures are sufficient I had customer take them for me otherwise I wouldve taken closeups.
Thank you for you time and insight. If the guide is broken Ill order one from you. Dont want to remove anything yet as it still can be locked but the bolt must be pried out from the top; not good for commercial site. Locking at night is when the issue arises.
My questions in a nutshell are:
May I remove those two mounting screws for the bottom rod guide on the lower edge of the active door and be able to replace the guide without removing the door since there’s no access to bottom of door? Maybe from inner edge there may be a long plate to access now that I’m thinking of it
Or best to just remove AR locking bolt assembly from mid door edge area and try to adjust the locking a bit longer; locking bolt may be just on the
very edge of the lower guide and maybe this would solve intermittent jamming when locking facility at night with the key.
Or I may have to replace the lower guide if defective or broken; may I do this without removing entire door since relatively no bottom access with tight floor tiles ?
Q: Hi Richard, Here’s the lowdown on the job today. I removed the top to bottom spring charged faceplate on the edge of the active door. Removed the Adamsrite assembly with floor threshold bolt. Inspected the guide with a my scope normally for safe work and found that the guide had a round hole then hex guide at very bottom. Unscrewed the two mounting screws for the guide but it was impossible to remove from under the door (no clearance). Elongated the rod with bolt and it did work a lot better. Previously if one throws bolt with the key and it doesn’t align with the hole ; the unit jams. Difficult part was reinstalling the guide and also getting the rod back into the guide. Made a hole on active door edge so I could light it up. Using a Shrum poke tool I managed to get bolt through a mounting screw hole. Guide looked good and all was fine after elonging rod just a few turns. Thank goodness didn’t have to remove mag unit atop door. Thank you for your insight and time!
