Q: Thank you very much for responding but I will have to decline purchasing these because high-speed steel has a much better where rate I appreciate the low price but like my father always told me you get what you pay for I'm willing to pay a higher price for high-speed steel. Again thank you for your response. You have other alternatives please let me know
A: If one does a bit of research, your position is supported and I too am one who will spend the additional money for a high quality cutting tool when I must leverage every advantage when doing a project. HCS is as you stated economical but the long life HSS tap intros size appear to be triple to cost. Therefore the question becomes hat is the proper tool for the work. Production, crucial thread accuracy, longer life as opposed to occasional non-critical work. Sometime I buy the lowest caliber tool when the project justifies nothing more. There are times I will go Cobalt or even Vanadium Steel (all available through Industrial type outlets) where I have one chance to "get it right" - but in the door and hardware industry, these occasions are rare.
What type of work are you doing with your HSS tap requirement?
Q: I'm a safe cracker and I routinely am drilling and tapping for combination dial installation on safes My two primary tab sizes are 8-32 and 10-32. Well it certainly not industrial I like to squeeze all the life out of my tools that I can. You mentioned tools that you felt were a higher grade than high-speed steel can you go into detail about those with me. I might be interested in those
A: I am not expert in higher grades of base material used in the manufacturing of taps but would suggest an industrial type hardware wholesaler to purchase and then test the Cobalt or Vanadium Steel versions. Please report back your findings and I will post here for others to review.
