Q: Hello. I saw your video on youtube and wanted to follow up and ask a question. The Ives RL30 interests me. I need a catch for a 3/0 x7/0 solid flush 1 3/4" thick residential front entry door. I want something solid that will easily hold the door shut but not cause too much swing back when I pull it open. What do you suggest? Thanks for your advice.
A: The Ives RL30 is an excellent choice for a roller latch but would suggest you review the line of idh Heavy Duty Silent Roller Latches as seen here:

I have found that the quality, performance, and expectations of the hardware always will exceed my requirements but I also find that the quality of the fit and finish, the overall gorgeous quality of the finish on the solid brass hardware, is always quite exceptional with this manufacturer.
The use of a roller latch on an exterior front entry door for a home she does indeed make me curious as to the balance of the hardware said that you are using on the door.
I assume you have a deadbolt, will install the roller latch but then also have a system of a push and pull hardware as well?

Q: Thanks you for your response. It was very helpful. This is a picture of a similar door. We are planning on having a long pull and a deadbolt lock. I want the catch to hold the door shut. Is there an advantage of one over the other? For this application do you like the Ives RL30 or the Idh 12017 more. Thanks you for your input. Brock
A: I like the IDH item far more for the reasons previously stated (fantastic fit and finish and less costly). However I might expect the weight of the door will require the installation of 2 - latch units.
I would like to ask, what hardware are you using to hand the door? Hinges or pivots?
After reviewing your image I see you are creating a disincentive door and would like you to also review these hardware items. Simply suggestions:
Hinges - I like the Soss 218 invisible hinge as seen here:

For a door bottom consider the
Zero 360AA 36" Sill Protection Automatic Door Bottom with Closed-cell Sponge Neoprene Insert - Mortised - Heavy Duty - Clear Anodized Aluminum as seen here:

For a door pull I like the Rockwood RM3300-72-630 Straight Square Ends MegaTek™ Long Door Pull Bar - 72" Overall Length - Satin Stainless Steel as seen here:

And fo rthe deadbolt I like the Kaba Ilco line of low profile deadbolts as seen here:
