Q: can you tell me on the 45 series deadbolts what is the purpose of the cam cover?
A: Lori Lock claimed it was necessary to prevent manipulation of the bolt through the keyway.
When installing the cylinder into the lock I have always used it, the cam cover, however regarding the claim of manipulation of the deadbolt through the keyway I have never heard of the lock being bypassed in this method however I would be quite shocked if it had never been bypassed in this method.
Depending on the broaching in the cylinder plug, (the keyway) you might have a perfect amount of room to get a … (sorry we do not discuss lock by passing techniques in the website).
I will say that the 45 series deadbolt is a favorite of mine because of its outright flexibility when it comes to cylinder & keyway (this lock will accept any typical mortise cylinder of course in addition to the two dozen or so keyways that Kaba offers), function (single cylinder, double cylinder, classroom function, thumb-turn only function and cylinder only function), door thickness (the manufacturer has published data* showing door thicknesses up to 3-7/8” thick however you could also increase that substantially - I can not see a practical limit - by modifying the cylinder with mortise cylinder extension kits available from Major Manufacturing**), backsets available - especially the 2” backset latchbolt available (which is perfect for a 4" wide stile french type door), available finishes and of course keying (we can assist with locksmithing services on this lock in house).
Simply be sure that your cylinder has the Ilco 863R fan type cam, assuming conventional core as seen here:

which would be required to operate this deadbolt
or alternatively the
Kaba Ilco R2800R#7-00-10
interchangeable core as seen here:

give this lock a try and I hope you will be as excited about it as I am.
