Questions and Answers
Q: The site now needs the latch & strike package (1 set). Can I over night these to the same address as before. Also, with all these sets we have ordered the set screws that are included were all the wrong size. We have had to find correct size replacements. Is this normal, can you have them supple the correct one if it’s an add on piece?

The set screws were too short, see attached:

And another handle fell off the door, they are junk. But we supplied what was spec’d…….

I know personally here in shop on the first order none of the set screws were the correct size & we had the same issue on one that were just sent to the job site directly.

A: I know that the manufacturer sent more set screws and based on your photograph I know that this is the proper size set screw, in terms of length, for this Baldwin line of hardware. Ive never really experienced the set screws falling out but I would agree, a single small set screw holding a lever onto a spindle in a commercial moderate or high-volume application is a very poor design and in fact you will not see that sort of system in any commercial hardware. This appears to be a restroom likely in a restaurant or some other retail application. To be frank I agree with Patrick in the sense that youve installed what was specified and I do believe that what was specified was not the best option based on the application.

Is there any sort of logic and replacing those with a grade 1 or grade 2 cylindrical lock? Schlage likely has a lever design thats not too dissimilar.

Please let me know what I can do to help at this time

PS: from Baldwin:

We sell hundreds of Estate levers and probably on average 50 a month of this lever design in all colors. I’ve never had a call where the set screw is too small. Once or twice a year I get a single lever that was not completely tapped. I will send the set screws on this order no charge. Hopefully your installer is not rushing. Sometimes the set screws can get cross threaded in the lever if you don’t make sure it is seated correctly before threading them. If the problem persists maybe we can get the Baldwin rep to visit the job site the next time he is in the area.
