A: If I'm assuming correctly that you have a 1990 series device please direct your attention to part number 22 as seen here:

and when you have the crossbar depressed you can then tighten part number 9 using part number 22 and that will serve to dog the device open accomplishing keeping the door in the unlocked and unlatched condition.
