Q: Hi, my customer has the "299 Strike" that comes with the von duprin 99 series panic bar, but he would like to switch it to something thinner. Do you have any suggestions? he has the "299 strike" that is ~3/4"-13/16" thick, but he is searching for any fitting strike that is ~1/2" or less thick. Its for about 30 external doors that are not fire-rated. he said the strike can be roller or flat. (hes attaching the strikes to pre-fab steel double-door dividers and trying to avoid having to cut all 30 dividers. when the given strikes are attached to the divider, the panic bar doesnt latch because the strike itself is too thick.)

So i dont know for sure how he will handle it. The customer finally got back with me and said he found someone in Hot Springs with a substitute to try. i relayed your question to him, and he thinks that the latch would fully extend if the edge of the strike plate did not stick out so much. i think its the edge of the panic bar is running into the edge of the strike plate, sounding almost as if he had trimmed the length of the panic bar down then it will fit. However, i have so little experience that its hard to picture. i told him to let me know how it worked out and what he ends up using, so i can learn from his experience and be able to pass the information on to other people. i hope he gets back to me...

A: I am assuming the exits are not installed at the correct backset per the device template and conclude the projection of the 99 latch will not fully extend. How do we handle this?

The other option is that we use the Kawneer C strike that would be used if you have a blade stop in aluminum storefront work so absolutely yes lets keep in contact with each other and lets both learn from your clients experience and thank you again
