Von Duprin 9975L-F Fire Rated Mortise Lock Device With Lever Trim

9875-F/9975-F: Fire exit mortise lock devices for all types of single doors up to 4´ x 10´ (1219mm x 3048mm) or 8´ x 10´ (2438mm x 3048mm) double doors installations, UL listed for Fire Exit Hardware; See page 41 for detailed information on UL listed fire exit hardware label and door opening size information. Devices are ANSI A156.3 – 2001 Grade 1. Fits door stiles as narrow as 4 ³₄" (121mm). The 9875-F device has a smooth mechanism case and the 9975-F device has a grooved case. The mortise lock device is non-handed except when the following device options are used: -2 (Double Cylinder) or SS (Signal Switch) devices.
The 7500 Mortise lock: is equipped with a ³/₄" (19mm) anti-friction latch bolt which is field reversible without removing the lock from the door. It has a non-handed auxiliary bolt for deadlocking and a faceplate with an adjustable bevel.
Device Functions: Device ships EO/DT/NL. Field selectable. For TP, K, or L adjust NL drive screw in mortise lock

Q: Is this device a positive locking hardware

A: I think the term that you might be wanting to state is “positive latching” which is defined by the List Council as “the condition of a door being secured such that manual operation of the latch or bolt mechanism must occur before it may be opened“.

Most certainly the Von Duprin 9975L-F Fire Rated Mortise Lock Device With Lever Trim would be considered “positive locking hardware” in that every time the door closes this hardware will be positively latch or engaged in its strike.

As an aside the term positive locking refers to the locksmithing industry and has a different meaning as it pertains to a condition within a cylinder and how the locking of that particular cylinder is obtained. This definition is also available in the List Councils dictionary linked above as well.
