A: Are you having trouble with a spring hinge? The Stanley F179-4x3.5-26D hinge is not a spring hinge.

Q: will this work for a Peachtree Citadel Door Hinge 3-1/2 x 4 - Dichromate Brass

A: Will it "work", yes - the question is will it fit without modification and that answer is "not whatsoever" as the location of the holes for the screws, the thickness of the hinge leaf along with corner treatment will have to be accounted for. Also, you are asking about a 3-1/2 x 4 and the F179-4x3.5-26D is a different size. The height is the first dimension, please be mindful of that as a 3-1/2" x 4 and a 4 x 3-1/2" are different hinges altogether.

The only hinge I sell that might fit, assuming you want a 4" tall hinge would be the Bommer LB4350-400-652 4x3.75in Single Acting Spring Hinge-Full Mortise-Residential Weight-Lube Bearing-Steel Base-Satin Chrome Plated as seen here:

and indeed it is a spring hinge, but setting tension on the hinge is optional and if you are faced with no other options, this unit would be the least "worst" of all options. the template to for size and hole locations can be reviewed here for you to confirm compatibility prior to ordering:
