Q: Do you have the schlage 760 in chrome, single cylinder.
A: Do you require a Prinus restricted key be provided with your deadbolt?
Q: I have a deadbolt that only throws when the key is inserted. So it cannot be thrown from inside the house with the lever. With the key inserted it works easily, whether turning by key or by turning lever by hand.
A: Does the inside the thumb turn work when the key is inserted in the exterior cylinder?
Q: yes, it works normally when key is inserted.
A: That does indeed make perfect sense that the inside thumb-turn what operate normally when the key is inserted because when the key is inserted it is creating a flush condition at the shear line between the cylinder plug and the cylinder housing.
This is a simple condition to remedy and all you will need to do is remove the interior thumb-turn and rotate the tailpiece 180 degrees and then reinstall the thumb turn and test for proper operation.
Please execute this modification and report back so we can confirm that your unit works as it should
Q: RICHARD HOWARD that was the right solution! It works correctly now! Thanks so much!

Q: What replaced the B400 deadbolt?
A: The Schlage B400 series along with the E - series grip where my two favorite lock series ever produced by Schlage. I felt the B400 series was, dollar-for-dollar, the best deadbolt on the market.
The Schlage B400 deadbolt was a grade 2 deadbolt and was discontinued April 1, 1996. Its replacement was the B100 grade 2 deadbolt and no parts were compatible between the two.
Q: When was the BC100 series of deadbolts discontinued?
A: The BC100 series product line was discontinued on 9/14/2007 and replaced by the B500 series.
Q: What replaced the B160 B162 and B180 deadbolts?
A: The BC100 series deadbolt replaced the B100 series in June of 2000. No parts are still available.
Q: Should the thumb turn on a schlage manual dead bolt lock turn a slight bit extra, causing a clicking sound and then rendering the key unusable from the exterior?
A: It should not and I have seen this issue in the past and in all instances I have discovered there is a mechanical failure of the tailpiece assembly and needs replacement. Please inspect the tailpiece assembly and feel free to reply with photos and we will be happy to assist with advise and any replacement parts necessary.
Q: When was the B600 700 800 deadbolt launched?
A: These products launched on 12/08/94.
Q: Does this part work with a two inch thick door out of the box?
A: Yes, it will work on a two inch thick door with no problems or extra parts needed...
Q: How to convert between a B660 and a B663.
A: To convert a single cylinder deadbolt to (or from) a classroom function, replace the complete inside turn unit per the following.
Single Cylinder Deadbolt to Classroom:
To convert from a B660/760/860 to a B663/763/863: Order the B663 turn, 12-618, and replace.
Classroom to Single Cylinder Deadbolt:
To convert from a B663/763/863 to a B660/760/860: Order the B660 turn, 12-617, and replace.
Q: Is the 1 3/4" backset still available for a deadbolt?
A: This product is obsolete and no longer available. At one time a 1 3/4" backset for the old B100/B400/B500 deadbolts was available.
Having said that there are specialty manufacturers who can produce mortise locks with this very narrow backs out and even smaller and then there was also a manufacturer of tubular deadbolts that can produce a 2-inch backset.
Please feel free to reach out to us if we can be of any assistance on this at any time
Q: What grade is our B600 series of deadbolts?
A: The B600, B700, and B800 are all grade 1 heavy duty commercial deadbolts.
A: That was the B160 which was replaced by the BC160 which was replaced by the B560.
Schlage also has the B60 as seen here:

Which is a very nice lock in comparison to the original because it will work in either an 1-1/2” or 2-1/8” hole and will feature a thumb turn that behaves in the same fashion where it is neither horizontal nor vertical when the lock is unlocked or locked.
I very much enjoyed the original B100 series because we could use the latch bolt from the B250 and the B400 were compatible. The only downside of that series was that it would not take a 6-pin cylinder without swapping out the cylinder.
Q: The deadbolt I'm working with is to the garage. It's locked and won't unlock and of course, I'm on the outside and the garage door opener is disconnected so I can't get in. Any suggestions? The key turns fine it's just that it doesn't disengage the lock
A: If yes then the tailpiece, or the linkage between the cylinder and the latch bolt would be broken.
Q: Do you have a strike I can ust for this application?
A: Sure do - That hole was drilled into the hollow metal frame when a deadbolt is added to an existing door and frame where the ability to prep the frame for the typical 2-3/4" tall deadbolt strike does not exist.
You need a thimble strike.
Schlage manufacturers a thimble strike and is the Schlage 10-064 as seen here:

Q: Watched your you tube video about switching a door knob key lock from left to right. Our door knobs are sure-loc brand. Our key hole is facing the correct direction and the turn knob is horizontal when locked and verticals when unlocked. That is all the way we want it. But when we use the key, we have to turn the key away from the door jamb to lock it. (This is a clockwise direction). We're always accustomed to turning the key toward the door jamb to lock it. Is there a way to change this or do some companies make their locks universal that you always turn clockwise to lock regardless if it's a left or right door?
A: This is a brand I am unfamiliar with and as a result unable to provide guidance in this regard. I would imagine the function cannot be changed but would contact that manufacturer or a distributor for direction.
Q: What is the standard door range for a B600?
A: The standard door range for a B600 is 1-3/4" to 2". This includes Standard cylinder, Full Size IC and Small Format IC.
Non standard door thicknesses include the following and are available upon request:
2" to 2-1/2" (FSIC or Standard cylinder)
1-3/8"(Standard cylinder only)
For even thicker doors, Schlage offers a specials kit for 2-1/2" to 4". See part numbers and descriptions as seen in the table here:

Q: Is there a tailpiece available that will work with single deadbolt B160 1 3/4" door?
A: The part number for the conventional tailpiece from the B160 was the B520-067 but unfortunately it's discontinued. There's just been too many years that have passed and all inventory has been exhausted.
