Questions and Answers

Q: I just watched your YouTube video about the Schlage latch. I had a Schlage latch that would not slide in without turning the handle. Schlage has awesome tech support, and replaced it for me. So problem solved, but I decided to disassemble it to see what the problem was. I just bent the two tabs straight and it came apart easily. I dont see anything obviously wrong or broken inside. But everything just kind of fell out of it. I think I have figured out about 90% of how it goes back together, but having trouble with a couple pieces. Do any diagrams exist on how these disassemble/reassemble? Mostly just doing this to see how it works, and if I can fix it, great!

A: Unfortunately I do not have a detailed drawing on the anatomy of that latch bolt.

Q: What backsets are available on Schlage and Falcon locks?

A: Backsets are generally available in 2-3/8”, 2-3/4”, 3-3/4”, 5” and more than 5” depending on the series:
