I think the root of the question is weather or not you can use this unit with a typical surface mounted door closer and the anser is yes. They may be used in conjunction with most surface applied door closers. In some cases, optional drop brackets may need to be mounted on the closers. These brackets are available from the closer manufacturer.

The short answer again is yes - but the specific overhead stop model and the specific door closer model must first be known to ensure compatibility.

A: The Rixson 9-336 Overhead Holder and Stop is not a multifunction device and cannot be filled changed from between the Stop, friction stay or hold open functions. The part number 9-336 specifically tells us that it is a stop function which would be appropriate for use on UL listed for fire door assemblies.

The part number for the friction type would be the 9-316 and the part number for the hold opentype would be the 9-326.
