Von Duprin Power Transfer EPT-10 x [fastener package] x [hand] x SP28

Power Transfer EPT-10 x [fastener package] x [hand] x SP28 Electric Power Transfer: provides a means of transferring electrical power from a door frame to the edge of a swinging door. The units are completely concealed when the door is in the closed position, and are ideally suite for installations involving abuse or heavy traffic. Pneumatic Controls PNT-1 is available for pneumatic latch retraction exit devices. Appearance and dimensions are identical to EPT models. Door applications: up to 5" butt hinges – 180° swing, 5¹/₂" butt hinges – 130° swing, 6" butt hinges – 110° swing, ³/₄" butt offset pivots 180° swing. Questions and Answers

Q: Where is factory recommendation for location of an EPT?

A: EPT installation guidelines are as follows::

Recommended location is 6" below top hinge per template as seen here:

Some manufacturers such as Steelcraft will locate the power transfer prep at the Von Duprin recommended template location of 6" below the bottom of the top hinge to the top the the power transfer preparation unless noted otherwise. This applies to both the door and frame.

When used with 4 1/2" hinges the locations are as follows:

Frame location is 22 17/32" from head to CL of preparation.

Door location is 22 13/32" from top of door to CL of preparation.

Q: Can a filler or cover plate be used to blank out a EPT prep on a fire rated frame?

A: Yes, a filler plate can be used to cover an EPT prep as long as it is made from the same material as the frame. This information can also be found in NFPA 80 under Chapter 5 for Field Modifications.
