Q: How much adjustment is there in the height from 1-1/8" and Is there an extension that can be attached to the high side of the threshold to serve as a ramp to make the transition smoother?
A: Regarding the Pemko 74518D Dark Bronze Anodized Aluminum All-Aluminum Adjustable Sill Residential Threshold -
Taken from the manufacturer's catalog:
Adjustable up to 1/4" to compensate for uneven door bottoms
and sub-sill level changes
The minimum Dimension as drawn is 1-1/8". Allowing for the 1/4" additional adjustment, that means the range of the threshold is from 1-1/8" at its minimum height up to 1-3/8" at its maximum height.
Regarding the question about a ramp that can be installed into the high side of the threshold, the answer is no there is nothing that will slide into it to make a wider assembly that would incorporate a sloped ramp type feature.
Having said this I understand that you want to create a ramp scenario as the user of the door is in a wheelchair.
In general ramp sections are made in 6" width. To be compliant with ADA regulations the rise over run formula is for every 1/2" change in height, the run, or known as the width of the threshold is 6 inches.
You could go from 0 to 6" and that would give you a 1/2" rise which may not work very well because you would still have a minimum of 5/8" of an inch to contend with. If you wanted the ramp to go from 0 to 1 inch in height that would give you a 12-inch width and you could even go to 1-1/4" height meeting from 0 to 1-1/4" but that would put you in the 15 inch wide range.
Does any of this ramp assembly seem like it's something that you are interested in? It would be attached as a separate item behind the back side or the pull side of the door and screw down to the floor but would make a very clean and elegant transition from interior floor to the face of the threshold.
The leading Edgeeof the threshold is about a half of an inch tall you could also install into it the standard extension that would come from the manufacturer which are available in 3-inch with, 2-inch width and 3/4" widths - however that would still give you a bull nosed edge that would still keep you about 3/8 of an inch or maybe perhaps a quarter inch overall height.
You could add the 6" wide ramp that would go from zero to half inch to dovetail quite nicely to the leading edge or the exterior side of the door.
I am happy to proceed with calculating the total cost for any of these components in any sort of fashion that you might want to arrange them.
