Q: Hello, I saw with interest your video on youtube and wanted to see if you have experience with installing these in solid core doors(like Masonite solid core)..36x80..? I want the clean installation(recessed/mortise)and the problem I am running into is that it seems I need to cut about 1 3/8 into bottom of the door to accomodate the Pemko but almost all door manufacturers (even for "solid"core doors)advise cutting/trimming the bottom by no more than 3/8. I am trying to find a solution for my basement where I would like to install either 2x36 regular prehung doors that will acoustically seal via bottom seals or a large barn door(which will be even harder to seal). I ran across Eclisse Acoustic(max 36 inch and no double door solutions)and Hawa Suono(which is hard to get and seems not fully developed yet for US installation standards).. thank you
A: The 3/8" dimension you are referring to is the amount that can be trimmed off the bottom of the door you're not apparently trimming your door you're just going to create a mortise into the bottom of the door which should present no long-term concern over integrity of the bottom construction of the door. I would proceed with confidence that this procedure will work.
