Q: Hello, I saw your video for the Pemko 346 C Clear Anodized Aluminum Overhead Rain Drip. In the video Richard tells how the rain drip is usually installed on the header of a door frame. My problem is that my door frame is about one inch high and is flush with the stucco. If I mount the rain drip to the door frame, the doors do not clear the rain drip. Would you recommend that I purchase a rain drip with a smaller projection? Or would it be possible to mount the rain drip to the stucco? If you look at the profile of the rain drip, the height from the top edge to the projection edge is the problem. My door frame simply does not accommodate the drop of 2 1/2" projection. A: A drip cap is an extremely effective way of driving water away from the top of a door and door frame and is proven effective when attempting to keep water from running down the face of the wall. If there is anyway possible to add this to your door way - we should seek that way to accommodate your request.

If your stucco is simply a fine plaster applied over your wall surface and is basically flat I might not hesitate to drill into it but I would like to know what is below the stucco before confidently proceeding. Can you tell me what is below the stucco?
Q: The stucco is not a fine plaster, see photos below. When I mounted Pemko 346 C to the top edge of the face of the door frame, the door did not clear the rain drip. Behind the stucco there is wire, paper, flashing, and plywood. The stucco is about an inch thick around the door frame. Also if you look at the profile image of 346 C, it looks as though it needs 1 1/2 to 2" to clear a door; the height difference from mounted edge to the projection edge.
A: I see your photos - thank you for sharing. I personally would order the Pemko 346C Clear Anodized Aluminum Overhead Rain Drip and specify undrilled. I would drill 4 - holes and install with stainless steel pan head 1-1/2" long screws. When applying to the face of the stucco, I would use a liberal amount of clear Polyurethane caulk, such as Vulkem, to both the underside of the flange that faces to wall so as to act as a bed to prevent water from sneaking between the face of the wall and the backside of the drip cap, and into the drilled holes as well as onto the threads of the screw when attaching the drip cap to the wall face. I would proceed with confidence.

Q: What does LAR stand for?
A: LAR stands for "Length as Required" and is a common abbreviation seen in plans and specifications when referring to items that can be ordered in whatever length is required for the application.
For instance if you have a project where there are 4 different opening withs of exterior doors, all requiring thresholds and door sweeps, you could call out the threshold / door sweep part number, any other options needed (such as notching or special fasteners) and indicate lastly LAR so as to convey to the detailer to assign the appropriate length threshold as the project requires.
Q: WHAT IS THE MAX LENGTH YOU CAN RUN
A: Approximately 16-1/2 feet would be the maximum length for the Pemko 346C Clear Anodized Aluminum Overhead Rain Drip.
