Q: Richard, Thank you for your help. I was quite frustrated after extended search for these items, and ordered 9 of the item you recommended from Jessica this afternoon. I sure hope these are the answer to my frustration and was shocked at the per item. As you can tell I was desperate to get this done before the cold weather sets in here in New York. Should I be able to use any brand of kerf seal once these are installed?
A: Any “reach” kerf gasket will work provided that it requires a kerf width of 1/8” - it was my understanding that you would be reusing your existing material. It is also my understanding that you verified the profile of the extrusion conversion matches the profile that is inside of your kerf. It is my intent that when the material arrives to you you have already eliminated the possibility that it is incompatible.
Q: I discarded my old weatherstrip, only to find it is no longer available? Is this the only way to go? I would prefer the old-style product. The new product falls out...
A: If you have a Peachtree Door Unit manufactured from approximately the early 2000s - this is very likely the only way to proceed. How wide is the kerf that you have there now?
Q: Thank you for getting back to me. The kerf is 1/4". Are you saying that the old type is unavailable anywhere?
A: I am indeed saying the original equipment that required the larger kerf is no longer available. Our conversion extrusion permits you to use modern equipment in that obsolete kerf size. You would order the conversion extrusion and then add to the order the current style weatherstripping based on the color and reach that you require.
Q: Can I come and buy from you today? I'm in Cape Coral
A: You sure can - we currently have 10 lengths in stock.
Q: How do I know I have a peach tree door, kerf on this door appears to mach what im seeing here in photos. I there a distributor near Fort Wayne Indiana so I can save the shipping cost.
A: If the width of your kerf is 1/4” wide then I would expect that you do indeed have a Peachtree system. Unfortunately Im not familiar with any distributors in the Fort Wayne Indiana area.
Q: In regards to the Peachtree conversion prices on your website, what does the option “gasket projection” refer to? I have the peachtree 1/4” x 7/16” deep groove for the old style weatherstripping and I’m just not sure what the gasket projection is referring to. Thank you.
Q: My house was built in 92 with Peachtree windows and doors. Until doing some searches I did not know that no manufacturer of weather stripping produces a product that can instill in 1/4" kerfs. Thanks for the mention of a fix using 1/8" shims. I had some 1/8" board laying around that I cut with my table saw into enough 1/2" strips (the depth of the kerf) to replace the weather stripping. I did not even have to glue the shims into place. When I started installing the 1/8" weather stripping the fit was perfect and would not easily come out. It was literally Easy Peezy, Lemon Squeezy!
A: Let it be known that “where there is a will, there is a way” and with even a reasonable amount of determination the unexpected can and does happen.
Ive often suggested to clients that they consider creating shims for this exact purpose and youre the first person to report back that they had great success.*
If anyone does need shims I would be able to easily make them on my CNC and would be happy to quote a cost to supply them.
For the rest that might find it difficult to create shins we do still say have some inventory of the conversion extrusion as seen here.
Id love to see photographs if you dont mind.
I have also considered the concept of simply adding a self adhesive pile to the back of the non barbed side of the modern curved in style weather stripping to take the same place as the shim does.
Q: Quick question: does Peachtree weatherstripping kit do a whole door or is it one piece? PN
A: The Peachtree 98540341-KIT-81 is priced and sold per piece. Generally, to do a complete door opening you would require three pieces.
