Linear’s Model PERS-4200 Personal Emergency Reporting System is a supervised wireless emergency reporting product designed for personal use. The table-top console provides pushbutton emergency assistance to anyone who desires additional security and peace of mind. For the visually impaired, labels are provided with Braille characters to identify the button’s function.

The PERS-4200 console can receive signals from up to 16 Linear wireless transmitters. Activating a transmitter causes the console’s digital communicator to send the appropriate alarm report to the central monitoring station via the standard telephone network or by the optional UMTS-3G cellular communication module, if so configured. In addition to the central station report, audible and visual indications occur during an emergency activation.

A variety of communication options are available, including 2-way voice activated (duplex), 2-way manual, and 1-way listen-only audio through the console’s built-in high-sensitivity microphone and speaker. After completing its local alarm sequence, communications with central station monitoring personnel commences. Two-way communication can also be initiated without any subscriber action, if required. Authorized individuals may call the console twice from any touchtone telephone and activate two-way voice communications by keying in a four-digit password after placing the second call. (This feature operates only on land-line telephone installations, and is not supported for the optional UMTS-3G cellular module).

An emergency alarm signal can be triggered by the illuminated HELP button on the top of the console or with any of a selection of Linear wireless transmitters. The fire alarm can be triggered by wireless Model DXS-73 smoke alarms. The carbon monoxide alarm can be triggered by wireless Model DXS-80 carbon monoxide detectors.

To simplify operation, the console can "speak" to the subscriber with its built-in digitally synthesized voice. The console is able to verbally say "emergency", "fire", "timer done soon", or other system operation, setup, and supervisory prompts from its 165 word vocabulary. If desired, the voice option can be disabled. The standard product ships with both English and Spanish language vocabularies pre-loaded, and selectable via RA-4200 programming software. French is available via a firmware upgrade, to replace one of the two standard vocabularies if desired.

The PERS-4200 has an ambient environment temperature sensor, to provide high and low temperature alerts. The set points can be customized, and reports can be sent to the central station to alert the provider to potentially hazardous temperature conditions at the subscriber’s residence.

The activity timer can be optionally programmed in a number of ways for user convenience, depending on the subscriber’s requirements. For example, the ’Failure to Report / No Activity’ signal can be sent if a preset amount of time elapses before either an activity transmitter is triggered or the console’s HOME button is pressed.

As a special feature, the PERS-4200 console can be configured to play reminder messages from its on-board library of pre-recorded voice prompts. The reminder messages can be used to help the subscriber remember to take medications, meet their scheduled ride, get ready for an appointment, etc. One specialized message is provided as a System Test reminder. Each message is now controlled by a real time clock and can be programmed via the RA4200 software to play daily, every other day, weekly, or monthly. Reminder messages are played and repeated in three-minute intervals for either 15 or 30 minutes (programmable) until acknowledged by the subscriber. Messages can also be programmed for single-play or one-time playback.

The console can also be programmed to act as a remotely-controllable "speakerphone". With the speakerphone mode enabled, the console will monitor the telephone line for an incoming call. Activating any emergency transmitter (or the console’s HELP button) while the telephone is ringing will cause the console to seize the line and begin speakerphone communications. Activating any emergency transmitter (or HELP button) during the call will disconnect the line. The console will auto-disconnect after 15, 30, or 60 minutes (programmable).

Supervised transmitters regularly send status signals to the console including low battery reporting when device batteries fall below programmed thresholds. When the console receives a low battery signal, the STATUS indicator will blink. If the console fails to receive a status report from a transmitter during its supervisory interval, the STATUS indicator will illuminate steadily. All supervisory conditions can sound a local annunciation and be reported to the central station if desired. Both features are available as an option during system setup and configuration).

The console’s digital communicator can route calls to three telephone numbers: primary, secondary, and supervisory. General reporting codes and individual sensor reporting codes are programmable for the 4x2 format (Point-to-Point). Alternately, Ademco Contact ID or SIA formats can be selected. The telephone line is constantly monitored, line failure and restoral can be programmed to be locally announced by the console.

Powered by a low voltage plug-in switching power supply, the console has provisions for a rechargeable backup battery for operation during AC power outages. A load-shed battery save feature allows for out-of-service storage of the console without discharge of the battery. During power outages, the Help button indicator will flash green, signaling to the subscriber that the unit is on backup battery power, The system’s power status can be reported to the central station, if desired.

Installation and programming are made easy by Linear’s RA4200 remote access software.
