Q: I have a 3462 controller installed is there an available dry contact on this control to operate an air curtain ?
A: The activation inputs are P6 or P7 (redundant) on the controller - these two inputs will perform the same operation as far as allowing you to use an air curtain. Is there a follow-up question I can assist with?
Q: What would cause a Senior Swing to open too far?
A: The Senior Swing operator is designed to power open the door to 90°. The built in dead stop (in the gearbox) prevents it from opening any further. If the Senior Swing operator is opening to far (past 90°) , the arm is not installed correctly. Remove arm and reinstall per appropriate arm installation instructions.
Q: What would cause a Senior Swing to open only 10 degrees and then close?
A: If the spindle only rotates a little then rotates back to starting position, the controller is not reading the encoder on the motor. The control box, part number 9540-3462 as seen here:

is defective and would need to be replaced.

Q: What wires are the activation inputs for the Senior Swing?
A: The current (digital control box) activation input wiring harness (# 761464-00) is included in the Sr. Swing parts bag (-518), and has 4 wires in it, Black, White, Yellow, & Gray.
  • This harness plugs in to either P6 or P7 on the Sr. Swing controller. (they are parallel inputs)
  • The black and white wire supply 24 VAC for accessories as needed.
  • The Yellow, and Gray wires are for activation. They are connected to the N.O. (normally open) and COM (common) terminals of any activation device directly.

The old style (non digital) control has a 3 wire cable -- Yellow, Gray, & Blue. The Yellow and Gray wires are the activation input and connect to the "COM" and "N.O." contacts of the actuator switch. The Blue wire was a safety input.

The Sr. Swing will accept an input from any number of actuators. They would all be wired in parallel with the N.O. (normally open) and COM (common) dry contacts connected across the Yellow & Gray wires of either the P6 or P7 input of the control box.

Q: door latch not working when the handicap button pushed. the motor wants to move door but latch not allowing it to move
A: When troubleshooting it is always wise to begin with the least expensive and easiest items to disqualify as potential causes initially.

I would imagine that there is an electrified lock on the door that when the actuator is engaged and the controller via motor gearbox initiates the process of opening the doors the communication between the controller and the electrified lock is where the problem is- tracking or tracing this problem back to the source will begin with confirming that your locks that has power and that it works independently without communication from the controller and once you determine that the lock is good then you can focus on the repair of the controller.

We can assist with the rebuild process or replacement of the controller if that is necessary - obviously also check your conduit to you might have a problem with the wire communicating to the electrified lock.

Q: Can you install the LCN 9542 on a 2" wide header? The door frame is full height to U/S of ceiling.
A: Strictly speaking you would be able to do so however you're going to be mindful regarding how much encroachment the overhead door operator housing along with the arms will reduce your clear opening height - this very likely maybe a problem of code requiring a minimum clear height. Also of course when you drop the unit down over the door where you want to be sure that you have adequate top rail to mount the arm.

A link to the installation instructions can be reviewed here:

    Download File

you will see on the 7th page of that document where it depicts mounting the door operator assembly overhead but that it is secured to the jambs.

Again my primary concern would be how much it would hang down into the opening and ultimately reduce your clear opening height below that which code requiresDownload File.

Q: I have a single door Senior Swing installed. Door operates fine when only using handicap buttons. If door is opened and closes manually, the electric strike will not release when either handicap button is pressed
A: I would check to make sure that the electric strike is receiving power and I would also check that you are getting a change in voltage state on the output from the controller.

Please also see the 6th page of the manufacturer's installation instructions as seen here:

    Download File

which will give you an idea as to what the wiring looks like for an electric strike from the senior swing controller.

Please report back to us your findings and we will be happy to assist further.

Q: What is a Senior Swing 9540 RF?
A: The Senior Swing Series used to have a 2 gearbox options, a "standard force" (15 lbs) and a "RF - reduced force" (11 lbs). In November 2009 RF option was eliminated and we made the standard gearbox 10-12 lbs.
Q: Where does the electrical rough in go
A: Your installation is dependent on whether youre doing a surface mounted or concealed header mount. The two different installation types can be reviewed at the link as seen here:

    Download File

Please draw your attention to sections 2, 3 and 4.

Q: Can a 9500 series operator on the push side be used with Cam lift hinges?
A: The Senior Swing will work with Cam Lift Hinges as a PUSH SIDE MOUNT 9542/9553/9563 only.

  • Maximum 3/4" lift.
  • Maximum 15 pounds force to push door up the Cam Lift Hinge.
  • Cam Lift Hinges WILL NOT work with a Pull Side 9531/9553/9563 as the arm has no give or flexibility.
  • Q: What is the Senior Swing 9540 REG arm part number?
A: The arms are as listed here:

Senior Swing 9540 Regular, push side arm, part number is: 9540-3077 as seen here:

    specify hand and finish.

Senior Swing 9550 Regular, push side arm, part number is: 9550-3077 as seen here:

The part number for the threaded rod "only" on the Senior Swing regular arm is 9540-82, 9550-82, or 9560-82 or -82L for the long rod option.

The part number for the threaded rod, turn buckles, and mounting block on the Senior Swing regular arm is 9540-79, 9550-79, 9560-79 or -79LR for the long rod option.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum reveal for a 9500 Series Senior Swing operator?
    A:
  • The 9542, 9553, 9563 surface mounted Senior Swing with a regular arm, mounted on the push side of the door, can handle a reveal from 1 1/8" up to 10".
  • The 9542, 9553, 9563 surface mounted Senior Swing with a long arm, mounted on the push side of the door, can handle a reveal from 10" up to 20".
  • The 9531, 9553, 9563 surface mounted Senior Swing with a track arm, mounted on the pull side of a door, can handle a reveal from 1/8" up to 4".
  • Reveal is the distance or measurement from the face of the door out to the face of the frame on the push side of the door.
  • Q: Does the 9540 Senior Swing need a separate relay board for wiring to electric locks?
A: The Senior Swing control box has a built in (programmable) relay output for connection to a Fail Safe/Fail Secure electric strike/maglock or to an EL Device power supply.
Q: How do you install the LCN 9540 Senior Swing (REG) push arm?
A: When installing the arm; the gearbox shaft and door must be at the (+90°) full open position. The following steps are used to install the Sr. Swing (REG) push arm.

  • Install the header and door bracket using appropriate template. (2-3/4 Butt Hinge/OP, 2-3/4 CP, or 3-3/4 CP) Measure and cut the threaded rod to correct length, using appropriate chart (based on reveal depth of frame and
  • hinge style used). *(see note)
  • With operator power "on", short the input wires (yellow and gray wires on P6 or P7 activation cable) and keep the wires shorted. This will cause the spindle on the motor gearbox to rotate to the (+90°) full open position, and remain there. (gearbox shaft will rotate 180° from its -90° breakout position)
  • Install the "spindle adapter" into the arm as required. (see appropriate template)
  • Set your door at the (+90°) full open position and install the arm to the spindle at the full open position (+90°) and tighten cap screw.
  • Screw threaded rod into the turn buckles and adjust so that the door stays at the (+90°) full open position.
  • Remove short from activation wires. Door will close and "learn" the opening.
  • Connect the yellow and gray wires on P6 or P7 activation cable to the activation device.
  • Test door for proper operation.
  • If no further adjustments are needed, secure arm by installing the washer and screw.

  • Q: Can you power an electric strike or maglock from the 9500 Series Senior Swing?
A: An electric strike or maglock (24 volt only) can be wired to a Senior Swing 2800/9500 series operator using the P10 Lock Interface cable.

To power the 24VDC electric strike or maglock off a LCN Senior Swing 2800/9500 models, a Von Duprin SO24 rectifier(included in Senior Swing parts bag) is required to power the electric strike or maglock. See wiring diagram and instructions (figure 3.6 on top half of page 7) in the Senior Swing control box instructions

Q: Can an auto operator be installed on a Dutch door?
A: Yes, an automatic operator can be installed on a Dutch door.

  • The operator must be installed on the top leaf of the Dutch door.
  • Only the top half will open unless the top and bottom leaves (sections) are interlocked.
  • Interlocking the top and bottom leaves together can be accomplished by: Surface Bolt - for non fire rated applications Approved latch set - required for fire rated applications
  • When both leaves are interlocked the Dutch Door will operate as a typical single door with an auto operator installed.P> Auto Operators installed on Dutch Doors is not a common application and may be found in Day Care or Health Care facilities where the door is required to function as typical door opening with an operator, but at times just open the top half of the Dutch Door.
  • Q: Can I get a Senior Swing with a reduced opening force gearbox?
A: The older model Senior Swing came with 2 spring options. The "standard force" spring required 15 lbs of manual opening force, and reduced force "RF" required 11 lbs of manual opening force. All Senior Swing models made after November of 2009 all have the reduced open force spring, and is the "standard" gearbox .
Q: Will a Senior Swing work with swing clear hinges?
    A:
Push Side Surface Mount Senior Swing can be used with swing clear hinges, standard butt hinge/offset pivot templating.
Pull Side Surface Mount Senior Swing cannot be used, the pull arm will hit the back of door at approximately 85°.
Concealed Mount Senior Swing can be used with swing clear hinges using the Offset Pivot (OP) arm only.
