Q: How do you install the arms on a 9100 Series Benchmark operator?
A: The installation of the arms with the Benchmark and Falcon Swing Door Operator is similar to the Sr. Swing Series . The arms are installed with the main activation input shorted, the gearbox at the full open position, and the door at the 90° door open position.
The following step are used to properly install the arms on the Benchmark 9100 Series and Falcon 8200 Series operators.
1. Make sure the Operator Power is connected and the operator turned on.
2. Install a jumper across the control box Main Act and Main Act Com.
3. The operator motor will activate and drive to the Full Open position, and remain there.
For Push Arm Installation:
1. Open the door to 90°, and attach the Main Arm to the operator spindle at 90° to the opening (+/- 10°) with the 8mm socket head screw.
2. Remove the arm locking screw from the Rod & Shoe. Attach Rod & Shoe to door. Insert rod into forearm tube and reinstall the arm locking screw loosely. With the door open to 90°, tighten the arm locking screw.
3. Undo the jumper that is across main activation inputs and let the door shut. After the door is closed, attach the actuators. Momentarily push the actuator, the door should open to 90, stay open for 5 seconds at least and then close. For Pull Arm Installation:
1. Slide the pull arm roller into the track, then insert a track end cap on each end of the track and install track to door.
2. Attach the Pull Arm to the track roller with the roller locking screw and to the operator spindle loosely with the 8mm socket head screw. Open the door to 90° and tighten the 8mm socket head screw.
3. Adjust arm if required. Due to the mesh of the arm to operator spindle, the door may be open to slightly more or less than 90°. To adjust arm, remove arm adjustment screws, push door open to 90° and reinstall arm screws.
4. Undo the jumper that is across main activation inputs and let the door shut. After the door is closed, attach the actuators. Momentarily push the actuator, the door should open to 90, stay open for 5 seconds at least and then close.
The arm must be installed while the operator is in the full open position. The arm must be installed with the arm, and the door at 90°
Q: Will the 9100 series Benchmark III power an electric strike?
A: The Benchmark III control has a 24VDC, 2.5 amp power supply, and built in relay for controlling electric strikes or other accessories less than 2.5 amps current load.
For a fail secure strike, run a jumper from 24VDC - (negative) to relay common. Then run a wire from NO relay (normally open) to one wire on the electric strike.
For fail safe strike, run a jumper from 24VDC - (negative) to relay common. Then run a wire from NC relay (normally closed) to one wire on the electric strike.Q: Can a 9100 series Benchmark be used on a high traffic exterior door?
A: The recommended application for the 9100 series Benchmark operator is low traffic exterior doors, or low/moderate traffic interior doors. The Benchmark series operator "is not" recommended for use on high traffic doors.
Q: When did we start shipping the Senior Swing, Benchmark, and Falcon operators with the ES Filter?
A: The ES Filter started to ship with these units (Senior Swing/Benchmark/Falcon) on 4/22/2013. The ES Filter kit will help eliminate line noise from an Electric Strike if used.
On the Senior Swing, if you have line noise from a strike the unit will go into an Error Code on the Control Box (Er14) and will not operate. Adding the ES Filter, which is a diode, will eliminate the Er14 and make the unit operational.
Resolution: On the Benchmark and Falcon, if there is line noise from a strike then the unit will lose it's hold open time. Adding the ES Filter, which is a diode, will resolve this issue and the unit will hold it's programmed hold open time.
Q: How do I fix a Benchmark 9100 that the belt keeps sliding down on motor gearbox?
A: The Benchmark and Falcon operator gearbox assemblies are not repairable. The gearbox belt and/or pulley cannot be replaced in the field, the gearbox would need to be replaced as a complete assembly.
