A: While this occurrence is rare, it does happen time to time however I find that when this screw begins to loosen, the ability to operate this deadbolt ceases. If the screw has loosened to the point where it has fallen out, #1. the deadbolt was never used and #2 would have been projecting and even rattling for days / weeks. After you purchase a new screw, be sure to use a thread locking type of product so as to give you a greater ability expressed in time to permit the screw to loosen prior taking corrective action and addressing the issue.

A: I would doubt that it's metric and I would place a caliper on the inside of the set screw across the flats and then you will derive a decimal value. I would then convert that into 1/32 of an inch.

As an example if you had a size of .160” on your caliper I would attempt to figure out what size that was in 32nd’s of an inch. I would calculate 1/32 = .03125” - then I would calculate .16/.03125 which would equal 5.12. My guess is that in this example I would need an allen wrench of 5/32”

I would also use some form of thread lock product is loosening set screws is a chronic and constant maintenance issue.
