Q: I need to replace what appears to be a 0501 latch, but the one I have has the latch on the right side.

Suffice it to say I get this question about once a month. And I certainly am aware of the fact that this latch handle exists in the opposite orientation.
I have spoken to the manufacturer multiple times regarding it and they acknowledge the fact that it exists as well, but have stated that they would have most likely ordered that from their own manufacturer and done so in large, significant quantities for a very large run of product for a specific job or a specific order that they have fulfilled in the past.
Having said this the item is available only as shown in the handing in the photograph at the link to the item here below.

Q: Is the JL Industries 0501 rated to be used in an exterior application?
A: I would answer by saying the JL Industries 0501 Latch for Door is used on exterior applications as it pertains to roof hatches but those latches are installed on the interior of the door and therefore in a standard installation is not directly exposed to exterior elements.
While the item certainly features a corrosion resistant type construction, the base material is naturally steel and would not be intended to be installed in an exterior application.
On the other hand I do not see it ultimately being a problem to do so however like all things exposed to the elements it will eventually fatigue.

A: The Bilco RPRS7 Replacement Zinc Plated - Bilco Shop #KTSLAM - Chromate Sealed Lock Assembly 4# for 1" cover - 4-5/8" Shaft is indeed a complete lock body with interior and exterior handles.
